Fat Rich People
29-08-2004, 20:45
So far they've been fairly enteresting to watch. I've been watching/listening to them on CSpan for about an hour and a half or so. I've heard lots of boos and shouts when the pro/anti bush groups clash. And so far I saw only 1 thing get set on fire. So that's not too bad I guess.

Still, it's fun to watch. A bunch of people just walked by shouting "FOX NEWS SUCKS!" Another group had one person with a megaphone or something shouting "FOX NEWS." and the group of people around him would yell back "BULLSHIT!" I just thought it was funny.

I love how they claim "this is what democracy looks like". Somehow I don't think a bunch of wackos in a leftist circle-jerk exchanging conspiracy theories and blocking city streets represents democracy. Maybe in France.

I love watching protests. It doesn't matter what kind. But usually the peace ones are the best.

There's NOTHING like listening to people say "make love, not war", and then set cars on fire! Or throwing rocks at the police because they're violent pigs!

Love it!

A large number of folks from the Free Land of Chickenring took part in todays protests, and I was able to be on the Great Lawn of Central Park while thousands upon thousands of men and women (from the ages of toddler all the way up to old fogey) relaxed and generally stayed together after their hugely successful and peaceful march.

I'm sick of anyone who uses France as a talking point in order to dish out their deliriously stupid viewpoints on world politics. I should also add that there were a number of proud Republicans demonstrating on the streets of New York. If anyone is interested, I have a photograph of a woman wearing a t-shirt that says "Intolerance is a Beautiful Thing" and holding a large sign saying "ISLAM SUPPORTS KERRY"... no joke.

...Now THAT is something to ridicule.

My dad is working hard at the convention this week doing security work for the nypd.He is dreading it. No policemen likes arresting protestors. It is terrible. These poor cops want to go home to their families and do their job protecting the public and for it they get harrassed, limbs broken, spit on, have buckets of piss thrown at them, get punched, and generaly treated poorly. what ever happened to peaceful protest? also, the worst thing: naked hippies. thats got to be the worst.......

I know these guys well and that bussiness about it being the cops fault is bull. these arent the "fascist pigs" represented by the people here. these are guys just doing their job and hoping for the best. they dont want to have to arrest anyone. hurt anyone. stop anyone. But if action is needed they do it. Please stop blaming the police. you have a grossly wrong view of their attitudes and motives as I know them first hand every day.

all it takes is for that one hothead cop to change alla that and I seen firsthand from protests that I went to how they act on the street at these things--theyre especially brutal at anti-globalisation protests--and lets not forget how they acted in Miami. Most may be ok but youve never been to a protest in your life if you dont see the things cops do that promote needless tensions and violence (for example at that bike demo at MSG cops were violently yanking people off their bikes) - so if their job is tough they must share some of the blame for that themselves-also alot of these cops oppose the things the protesters stand for so that adds to their hostility
