Nirvana is way better...though Led Zeppelin is the best.

No-one said which was best (well, origionally), only which was better, but yes, Led Zeppelin and others are better than both of em

Comparing the songs of both bands at their respective hey-days, I'd have to say Guns N Roses are by far the better band.

Paradise City anyone? Patience? Sweet Child O' Mine? I could go on, but I really don't have to. These classics speak for themselves, plus Axl had a better voice than Kurt, and Slash is by far a better guitarist.

Just my $0.02

GNR kick ass. Or they did till Axl screwed 'em. Meh...

Most Nirvana songs sound the same, and appeal to generic teens with 'issues' and think that powerchords are all u need to know on guitar...

*ramble-ramble*

Nyways, I'm a big GNR fan so I'm slightly biased in this area...

both great bands, but obviously they are still one rung below the mighty Iron Maiden! \m/:D \m/

Led Zeppelin IS the greatest rock band of all time.

And if you disagree with me, you're wrong.:)

Definitely GNR.

However, I'd rather sit in a room with Kurt Cobain's corpse than meet Axel Rose.

I've got one GNR album, but no Nirvana albums...

...and all of Zeppelin's albums excluding greatest hits.

It's a bad choice, but I think I'd go with Guns N Roses.

With GNR u get:
shreiky vocals
bad lyrics
fairly good guitar riffs and solos
decent drumming
constant musical masturbation/rampant egotism
lack of variety

With Nirvana u get:
bad off-key vocals
bad lyrics
bad guitar playing (a couple of good riffs though)
very good drumming
lack of variety

GnR are marginally better, but i'd pick "Heart-Shaped Box" over any GnR song.

A lot of people don't seem to realize that the author of this thread doesn't want to hear what the "best" is. He's asking for which is better GNR or Nirvana...

Sigh...

It's a simple question.

but where is the fun in awnsering a question of art. There can be no best. Its always objective, ther eis good and bad, but in the end its down to taste.

And Nirvana had song that sound good no matter how you play them (listen to "school by Fear factory, its a great cover and nothing like Nirvana)

But GNR were pretty good too.

Well, how could you go on? You really can't. That's pretty much their entire repertoire. Pretty much all their other songs were covers. Just look at that 'best of' album that came out this year. 7 of the 14 songs are covers. That says something about their ability.
Sure Nirvana were hard to listen to sometimes but their song-writing skills were superb.
Plus I like edgy noise-guitar type music. And I love Steve Albini's work (the producer of 'In Utero'), who had more to do with the sound than the band.

Overrated? Certainly.

Ah, have you ever heard Appetite for Destruction? In my opinion, one of the best albums. EVAR.

Hmmm.... I just love threads like these!!!

Being a Seattle native, I'm inclined to say that Nirvana was better. HOWEVER, I am a fan of both bands, and furthermore, I agree that Led Zeppelin was the greatest rock band to ever walk the face of the earth, end of story!!!
