I don't know which new RTS is should buy. War Hammer 40K: Dawn of War or Rome: Total War. I mean, they both rock and I have the beta for WarHammer and the demo for Rome and they both have pluses and weaknesses.
Here's Rome:

rome looks good, but it seems to need a very powerful computer.
warhammer i would buy, i read a review that every unit had a special attack and you have 3 armies, i would say warhammer
I'd say Warhammer, but then I'd realize you're not talking about the miniatures tabletop game and say flip a coin between the two video games.

Do you prefer medieval or sci-fi? They are both near the top of the line for their genre, so it's mostly of what you would rather imagine yourself in.

actually no it doesn't I got a 1.4 duron(compareable with a intel 2+ghz chip but really hot) with 640 sdram(half the speed of ddr), and a radeon 9100(many known issuse with games). I set all the graphics levels to high and the game ran flawlessly AFTER running Kazaa for 2 hours and a running a few games that my comp doesn't like running.
for me it ran better than medieval:total war (witch highly confuses me).
Get rome. It'll be the RTS of the year.

2 ghtz is powerful, the average rts game needs 1600 htz, it would use about 6000. 2 ghtz is about 2,000,000,000 htz, maybe less

I'd say R:TW, but thats just from experience with M:TW. It was a cool game, and the Turn Based part just made it all the better.

Both games are going to be great. I have previewed both myself and both about average out in excitement factor but as a Warhammer 40K fan I would have to go with Dawn of War.

Both look damn good, but being the WH40K junkie I am, I have to suggest Dawn of War (can't wait for it myself).

Wait for a month and buy Rome; the replay value will be far greater than WH40K:DOW.
Plus, Rome looks simply amazing. It's frightening.

If you've ever played a Total War game, you'll know that Rome is going to kick ass.
Strategy on the campaign map. And huge-ass battles on the battle maps.

C'mon. The campaign map looks awesome. And this is a slightly older picture.

Also, if you watch the History Channel, they've shown "ancient" battles using Rome Total War. I watched Alexander at Gaugamela 331 BC, one episode.
Just another reason to buy RTW.

Get both.
Just from the screenshots, Rome looks far superior.
I personally don't feel like buying another sci-fi RTS until something comes out that looks like being better than Starcraft.
Didn't they use the Rome total war engien for the battle scenes in the BBC programm Time Commanders? On another note when does R:TW come out in the UK?

Played both, Rome was better, Warhammer was really laggy, but it was cool how you could custumize the team colors, but Rome was still cooler.

Yes. CA is based in the UK, so I would imagine it would come out at the same time it comes out in the US -- Fall 2004. Though many sources point to a late September release.

the radeon 9000 is better for gaming than my 9100 and it's sd ram. it's slow.
Dawn of war.
I was in the beta. it is the most fun I have ever had playing.
