Why isn't Shaq on the Olympic basketball team? Why? Why? Why? Why, wouldn't he be on that team?

I think that the "Dream Team" concept is a poor one at best. Take a gander at the Disney movie "Miracle" about the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team for a better theory on how to build a winning sport team in a short time.

I've seen the movie "Miracle". But I've heard that Shaq didn't want to join the team because he didn't want to "get hurt for next season". Please! He is on a terrible basketball team now. Anyway, we needed the best of the best on our Olympic basketball team, we don't have the best of the best in America on our team. Whoever put that team together did a horrible job.

Because he'd rather get paid bushels than international glory.

Shouldn't really call this the Dream Team as they had no team work. We should go back to having college all-stars making up the team, at least they would have more time to practice together like the rest of the national teams.

If you've seen Miracle, and still say "we needed the best of the best", you obviously didnt understand what the movie was trying to show about the choosing of the 80's team.

The ability of a team, is not equal to the sum of the individual's abilities. It's that plus the ability of them all to work together. A well organized, and discilplined team will beat the snot out of a team of individualists any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

I do understand what you mean, but I personally think that part of the problem is that the American players are trying to show off. It looks to me like they are trying to be really fancy to impress people, but half the time it just makes them lose the ball or miss the basket.

I thought professionals were barred from the Olympic games. If they get payed to play their game (NBA), then they're not playing for the right reason...right?

Sure, some star Olympians get endorsements, but most of 'em work at Home Depot. It takes a lot of passion to do what they do. Pros sort of scuff up the whole thing.

Why couldn't they have just sent all of the L.A. Lakers over? They don't need to work on being a unified team, they already are one.
