I found three or four websites that had a mention of me. But most of them were local or hunting websites.

Yeah, it is boring, unless you are lucky (or unlucky) enough to have the same name as someone famous.

I have quite a common name, it appears.

Well, I'm Charlie Buechner. Apparently Fred Buechner's got all the fame for that stupid bestseller he wrote with the trees on it. Oh, and my dad. My dads coooool: http://www.stennis.gov/Congressional%20Bios/jackbuecher.htm

I also learned that Lt. Jack Bushyhead of the United States Army was captured as a POW during WWII. (Haahaha... Bushyhead)

And finally, eBay has some great deals:

*shifts in chair with a guilty look on his face*

I do that regularly.

I've found columns I've written for various online and RL publications that have been linked to other websites. That's how I found out that other college newspapers would sometimes get columns I've written for The Diamondback off University Wire and publish them in their own newspapers.

My father googled himself, and found another man with the same name who lived in Australia.(We live in Eastern Pennsylvania.) As far as we know, we have no relation to him.

Then, a site that lists a poker game that me my brother and our friend made up, then some local school related things, then some things related to relatives, and some people who I don't know but have the same last name as me.

A famous defence lawyer has the same name as me.
But then cause he's in the papers and on TV occasionally I knew about it already.
I've often wondered if it hasn't helped me at times. Because there's been a few times I've done some really bad driving type things past cop cars and never been chased and ticketed. The worst time was when I overtook a van into on-coming traffic (wasn't delibrate they came round a corner and I was already committed). They had to swerve to avoid me, and one was a cop car. I mean we talking speeding (140km+), dangerous overtaking, dangerous driving, reckless endangerment, god what else?
But nothing. no chase, no ticket.
I think maybe they checked their computer, saw my name and figured it wasn't worth ticketing me cause I would defend it bitterly and publicly with my amazing legal skills.

Yep, and I'm not afraid to admit it. If I type my name plain I'll get 30 or 40 hits that just mention my relatives and random people with my first name in the same document, but when I do quotes around my name I get just eight or so that are all me.

My last name is Polish, which means very long and nearly impossible to spell, but still, my own name gets many hits. This is actually not very surprising, considering that for a Polish name, it is still pretty common, and that my own family is very prominent in the politics of the Buffalo-Niagara region. Still some interesting things come up, like an cartoonist living in Germany, a Polish composer, an Ohio alpaca farm, an Olympic water polo player, a toy inventor, a music store, and a ton of sites in Polish that I can barely read. None of them are me though. The only thing of mine that I found on the internet was an online petition that I signed under an alias.

There's a very, very famous college volleyball player that has the same name of me, so, that's all you see on Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Melissa+Popp%22&sourceid=mozilla&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8).

Yep. First few hits are calls for papers for panels I'm chairing... (Speaking of which, if anyone has an interest in horror, I still need at least one paper for this panel (http://cfp.english.upenn.edu/archive/Cultural-Historical/0784.html).)

Nothing too interesting after that... although I do get almost two pages of hits.

Also, I was named after a character from a moderately popular series of books, so there are plenty of hits relating to those...

When I search for my first and last name together, I get nothing.

But just my first name, and Google asks me if I'd like to rethink the spelling.

Then I get:
-Japanese, Russian, and Polish websites
-Apparently some girl is using my name on TeenSpot.com as a nickname
-Division Moving has a song which bears my name as the title
-Some forums I belong to come up

Unfortunatley, even with my name in qoutation marks, I got 3,620 sites!

No, I'm not that well known.

Hehehe. It's just that the unique combination of my first and last name draws up a lot of musicians. Especially Little Richard. Maybe I'm mentioned somewhere, but 3,260 is a lot to look through. :(

Cool, I just checked again and not only am I a top-notch lawyer, apparently I also wrote 'The Quick and the Dead", "Traffic", "Dinotopia" and "The Snow Queen". No wonder I liked these movies.
And when I'm not lawyering and script-writing, I'm a senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Cambridge University in England. And a glass-maker for a top glass Venetian glass jeweller. And a graphic designer, though I have to say I have very cheesy taste in air-brushed pictures. Still nice to see I have many talents.
Doesn't explain why I got a C in School Art though.

The first entry under my name is a news release from my undergradate university from about 6 years ago, and the second entry is my personal website. If you google the name of my blog (Incertus), it's the number one reply.

I have a rather common name. When I put it without quotes I have a bit over 500,000 results. When I put it in quotes, around 6,000. And when I put it down with "fencing" one of my hobbies, (probably my rarest hobby) I get twenty-three results, six of them "very similar to the results already displayed".
