I doubt it.
I thought the comment about playing tetris and running around stacking everything was funny, though.

Note: These people didn't start the petition because they're Christians. They started it because they're hypersensitive whackjobs.

Haven't these slack-jawed hillbillies ever heard of a little something called "Free Speech"? I mean if you don't like the game, don't f'ing play it. But don't try deny other people the right to play it. It's sad that in this day of age they're still trying to cram the bible up everyones ass. Speaking of which, I wonder how they would like it if someone tried to ban that little tome, hmm?

Did they really ban those games in Australia? That's ridiculous. You should all be signing a petition to unban those games.

Holy crap. That's uncanningly like going to a rave.
Wow, what if there was some truth in computer games affecting kids...

If this isn't a joke, this is just a continuation of the same witchhunt that attacked Dungeons & Dragons, horror movies, heavy metal, goths etc etc etc.

I completely agree with these people.

It should be banned.

Its violent, and portrays Satan.

In fact, I think that everything that is both violent, and has references to Satan or Hell should be banned and never seen again!

Like the Bible, for instance.

The funny thing is Doom is all about fighting the devil, not worshipping it. It's like saying that we should ban the documentary Nazis: A Warning from History, or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade because they have swastikas in them. Should people also not read Le Morte d'Arthur because it has sinners in it? Or Dante's Divine Comedy because it has hell in it?

IMO the only reasonable grounds for objecting to these games is the whole effect of video game violence on people's behaviours, but they're not even talking about that. And even if they were, games like GTA are probably worse than Doom because in GTA you're killing people, while in Doom you're killing hellspawn.

Why do people feel a need to ban things? Are they that wrapped up in their own sense of comformity and self-comfort that they can't handle a challenge? Do these people feel a need to make us follow their beliefs? If they believe so strongly, why are they so insecure?

Ban Doom3? And not Clive Barker's Undying, or perhaps the newe oncoming Lovecraft-themed horror-game, or the Silent Hill-series..... Oh I see, it must have some inside joke hidden in it that is missed by the fundies and considered satanism... Funny though, for what I have understood, a satanist could propably sue those fundies on the grounds that they are attempting to hinder his religious practices(read:worshipping Satan/Santa/The Great Pumpkin), a right wich is gueranteed by the UN ;)

I think this is another example of my christian friends missing completely the point of everything they get up and say on sundays. Once again they've basically forgotten everything Jesus every said or did. Surely they could spend their time on better more socially productive activities than banning a freaking GAME!

I think every christian should be FORCED to play this game. It'll either strengthen their faith or implode their brains... either ones fine by me. Its easy to live your life praising God etc. etc. etc. if you never face evils!

Actually. This petition should be banned.

(btw, I am christian, but that doesn't make me a bad person ;) )

It's not because christians believe in some higher power which denies them lots of things that they can force others to follow their rules too.

It's a belief and till now completely unproven. So you can't force other people to obey your 'Higher power'. Please stop this nonsense and remember there is such thing as separation of state and church: no church can make up rules in a country, nor can it prohibit things.

Give freedom to all!

I was going to sign it but most of the petioners seemed to be all for Doom3 and not against it, which would be ironic if the amount of signatures were enough to get the game banned, were to come from people who liked the game.
I think I'll sign it anyway, most of the kids on there sound really disqusting, and definitely have filthy mouths and minds.
I guess this is what happens when a generation gets raised by idiotic parents to do what ever they feel like, with no restrictions or questions asked.

Now you can slam me.

This is of course very unlike fanatic christians, who try to stamp out every freedom that does not fit in their small minds....

A new company calling itself "Digital Praise" has started up to produce Christian computer games. Which will be great fun, I'm sure. Right up there in the quality stakes with Christian rock music. Quite what they're going to produce, I've no idea: a Jesus platform game, maybe? A button-basher along the lines of "Track and Field" where you have to keep your Faith Meter high enough to walk on water?

It bring up the question what would Jesus play a game killing demons or a boring game

I can see a Church simulation game where you can attract followers, kick out Gays and Lesbians, rally for Christian morals and struggle with peds in the clergy.

The petition is obviously a flamebait satire to begin with. But it does bring up a point. How come hardcore Christians aren't happy about a game where killing demons and kicking Hell in its collective genetalia is the main draw?

I mean good grief, is it too much to think if Hell did invade it would involve a lot of gruesome things like dismemberment and splatterage? What are they expecting? Jesus to pop up in a flash of light and make all the minions of Hell disappear with the Care Bear Stare?

Don't Ban Doom III for being satanist, Ban Doom III for being a generally bad game. Really, it would be ok, but its not like you can actually see the graphics instead of a big black nothing at all times.

Admittedly, I can see reasoning behind banning manhunt and postal 2, stupid kids with irresponsible parents lead to fundies blathering

Amusingly enough, the first guy said it was bad enough there were a first two, when there were, well, three

I wonder if that company has anything to do with the company that made those craptastic christan NES games. One of my friends actually had one of those games back when he had his NES.

There was a site that was all about banning Doom 3 a while back. It was a joke, something they revealed after me and some friends spammed their comments section and forum till their bandwidth died ^^

But if someone is actually serious about it, they should be shot.
