Would You Become A Cyborg?

If technology became advanced enough to replace human limbs with superior cybernetic components, would you replace any of your own limbs with them?
I sure as hell would, that would kick ass.
how funny I just posted in another thread how I would love to be a cyborg

That's where i got the idea actually. But honestly, If you could get an arm implant that would make your left arm able to lift heavy objects easier or store weapons/items, why not? How cool is that!

I do kinda like the idea. And its not like I'm emotionally attached to my body as it is...

BTW, would this be risky? expensive?
It seems to me they're be some legal battles over it. People might try to turn they're bodies into powerful fighting tools of advanced theft or build thier bodies into bombs (and carry them onto airplanes, ect...).
The religious right would have a feild day.

I would totally not want robotics built into me, I'd rather NOT have my body defiled by some odd mechanics.
Of course, to stay even with all the people that do, I'd just get ones that I could operate by hand :) You have your arm capable of lifting heavy objects, I have something that lifts heavy objects for me....

Lol possibly, I was thinking more along the lines of a lightweight device I could just hold that would be capable of lifting very heavy weights... (if we had the technology to build robotic arms into people, I don't think that'd be very difficult)

I've actually read a really good article about this topic. It was entitled "Why The Future Doesnt Need Us." It basically stated that due to trends seen in present society, that in the future, humans will see combining themselves with machines as being the ultimate and most successful solution. It would solve any health issues, promote longevity and make physical labor much easier.

Not really; without using bizzare physics, it would be impossible for you to put alittle force to hold a device that was also lifting a huge, heavy object.

Kick ass, paper thin apendage enhancers that can be implanted beneath the skin. (or in your case maybe you would like it worn on the outside, like a high-tech sticker)

"If"? What on earth are you talking about with this "if"? I've had a datajack for as long as I can remember, these cybereyes were my eighteenth birthday present, and despite popular opinion, Rating 6 Dermal Plating is NOT a natural occurence for trolls. Specifically, Newton's (2nd?) law, action -> reaction
I would tee-toter the decision, there are pros and cons to it just as there is with everything

Well it would also be impossible for your arm to be able to hold any sort of heavy object that was greater than the amount the part of your human body that was still there could hold (i.e your shoulder for example). I'm assuming if these super robot arms can make you hold immense amounts of weights, they have that technology for those bizzarre physics :p
Specifically, Newton's (2nd?) law, action -> reaction
and I have a question about that...
...if every action has a opposite and equal reaction, wouldn't the reaction be turned into an action and have its own reaction, therefor the two objects would we trapped in a continuous cycle

Robot arm beats stump any day. And hey, maybe scientists could make you feel what the arm feels. Artificial nerves.

I am not sure that I would want to do this. The sacrifices might be too great. What about losing the pleasure of touch and sensation as we know it? Even the simple feeling of holding somebody else's hand could be irrevocably gone. And for those discussing completely robotic bodies, how do we know that a machine can sustain a human soul? The attempt could just end up killing you.

The problem is that if you were to create a strong robot arm, in order to lift something with it, you would have to have similar work done to your entire body.
When you pick something up, the weight is, in some way, applied to your legs. So if you had an arm that could lift one ton of stuff, you would have to have the rest of your body adjusted to support the same weight, or you would pick up and elephant and your arm would break off, or your legs would collapse under the strain.
That said, I would replace all but my brain with machine parts. Immortality, inhuman strength, never having to worry about scratching your groin in public, and no nose!

Id prefer some sort of nano suit or bio-chemical engenering. Just having big robotic parts would be cumbersome and more problimatic than i would want. I mean, look at how often your computer fucks up.
