A Call to Political Arms!

I urge my fellow progressives to get out there and work to defeat George W. Bush in the upcoming election. Bush has weakened this nation in the world, alienating us from our closest allies. His unilateralism has exacted a heavy toll on sales of U.S. products abroad. The only thing we seem to export in large quantities these days are our jobs. Millions have lost their jobs, health insurance, or both under Bush...and the President is not interested in helping them.

I am convinced that if Bush is elected to another term in office, the situation will get worse. The President's heavy handedness and bull-headed approach to foreign and domestic policy is wrong! Decisive leadership is a plus, but Bush takes it to an extreme...he takes sharp ideological stances and doesn't back off them even when those stances are failing America. Stubborness is not strength, people!

Progressives? Yeah....we really need to go back to the 1960's with Kerry. his programs are too much like Johnson's "War on Poverty." We all know how that turned out don't we? It resulted in the welfare state of the 70's that we JUST got out of.

Yeah, we need that again....

And remember....this election is about George Bush, nothing more and nothing less. The economy is not doing well, the terrorists are not defeated, and neither Afghanistan nor Iraq are stable. Bush's policies are failing....so much so that groups that are traditionally non-political, such as Nobel prize winners and U.S. diplomats, are banding together and sounding warning tones. They are saying Bush is hurting America.

You misunderstand me, Biff. I do not want to create a welfare state. But I DO think Bush is taking us over a cliff. For example, stem cell research: Even Nancy Reagan is advocating researching in this field. But Bush is bowing to his extreme right-wing constituents and blocking it. Americans are dying who COULD be saved with this research. And at the same time, other countries ARE researching it, and they will receive the economic and health benefits of doing so. Scientists are actually LEAVING this country because of Bush's actions, so they can research elsewhere.

Ah, the infamous They. They've been saying a lot lately about a whole lot of things. I think we ought to track down the ones who are actually behind 'They' and force them to come clean. Only then will we have true openness in the American electoral process.

Argue a real point, Shalrirorchia. I don't like Bush either, but I don't annoy people with vague generalizations.

I saw a great bumper sticker

"Kerry lies like Clinton and bores like Gore"

Both parties will make bigger government. The Dems will just get us there faster.

There are no restrictions on stem cell research in the U.S. and Bush has increased stem cell research funding from $0 under Clinton to over $50 million this year.

Economic expansion in the last year is about $100 billion more that it ever was in the "boom years" in the late 90's

I'll have this entire debate with myself in order to save other people the effort of posting and keep politics off of the front page:

Now that that unpleasantness is our of the way, we can go back to the important issues of today, such as who is the sexiest woman alive and which siblings you hate.

PS: What exactly is the point of rocking a "BOXXOR"? Is that the kind of underwear or the athlete?

Whenever I see or hear people rampage about Bush and support Kerry, I wonder to myself if those who complain have even the slightest idea what Kerry's real stance on anything is, aside from the now very, very, very well established fact that he was in (and apparently still hasnt left) Vietnam.

this goes for everyone debating/fighting in this forum as well as every other one on this board, since they all seem to go to bush vs. kerry:

you better goddamn well be registered to vote and voting in this election, or else your opinion means absolutely shit.

i'm willing to bet that 99% (which is ~100%, right?) are, but i've run into this before. thank you, and carry on...

I am registered to vote, and have been since I turned old enough to vote. Since then, I have not missed any election save for one, the 2000 Primary between Al Gore and Bradley. But I voted for Al Gore in the General Election later that year.

How does Kerry scare you?

He has no firm agenda. He changes his mind too often. He WILL raise taxes even though he says he won't. He is not well liked in his own state. He has a shoddy record in the Senate. His attendance record is abysmal. I seriously doubt he has the intestinal fortitude to take care of the military or use it when needed.

As a disabled veteran I am apalled at how he treated that elderly veteran during his initial campaign. Frankly, I feel the man is quite dangerous and that will become more apparant in the weeks to come.

I'm curious to know just how many people on this thread have actually gone out and researched in-depth the actual issues that are going to come into play around the Presidential Debate season. I always here people saying 'the news said it, so it must be true', or 'the government said it, so it must be true'.

If I've learned anything in the past few months, indeed my entire LIFE, is that many people have what I call a 'gang mentality' when it comes to politics. This depends largely on where you come from in the United States, because believe it or not, this nation is divided. People start seeing pretty ads on tv, the Internet, everywhere about one party or another. Because of this information overload, people usually just pick something and stick behind it irregardless of what it is exactly they're voicing their uneducated opinions over it.

The scary thing is that people are actually encouraged to be ignorant because we are the land of the free, so we don't 'have' to learn about this or that. So, naturally, people just go on living, not even really aware what the powers that be are doing behind closed doors. Oh, occasionally there's a scandal that gets everybody pissed. The media will usually play both sides of that and again you get a political gang mentality going.

The truth is, no real human being can be one way or the other unless you are a radical. I myself am more of a Moderate with some leftist leanings, though again, I am conservative on certain issues. In short, moderation is the key to make a country work for the good of the majority and still be able to lend a hand to the extremist minority.

So I'll just sum things up now. People that go running their mouths on what's going on politically, economically, militarily, etc, should do mankind as a whole a favour and research the facts before they go and form an opinion. And for God's sake, get rid of the damned Electoral College. It's a complete joke to say popular vote counts anymore.
