Hardly obscure.

I didn't really understand Donnie Darko.

The director's cut is coming out soon, yay. Which is apparently easier to understand.

However, I don't think that Donnie Darko is as obscure in Britian as it is in the States.

Mine would be.

If you haven't already seen it, you must see The Usual Suspects. I would buy it on DVD / Video because its the type of film that you have to watch twice, but is well worth it.

Awesome stuff: My roommate was an extra (guard) in Last Castle.. You actually see a better shot of him than you do of some of the credited actors! LOL

1: Name of The Rose (Little known Sean Connery flick)
2: Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man (pointless action/shooting/exploding flick)
3: For a Few Dollars More (underrated Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood flick)

Always wanting to see this film. I loved the book.
2: Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man (pointless action/shooting/exploding flick)
Have never even heard of this (only one on this thread ;) )
3: For a Few Dollars More (underrated Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood flick)[/quote]
I remember I used to think I hated Westerns until I was given this (along with A Fist full If Dollars and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly). Love those films, especially love Ennio Morricone [sp?]

1. Legend
(Tom Cruise & Tim Curry {Best make-up effects in any movie I've ever seen for Tim's role as "Darkness"; The soundtrack almost sounds like Geddy Lee of RUSH did it)

2. Dawn of the Dead
(The finale of the Almighty Romero "Living Dead" trilogy, and in my opinion, the best. It was arguably some of Tom Savini's best work he's ever done {He was the special effects artist. He did the first 5 Friday the 13ths, from Dusk 'til Dawn [Also played the role of Sex Machine], Dawn of the Dead [played a biker], and was the director and effects of the Night of the Living Dead remake in 1992 [It used the guy who played Candyman]})

3. Evil Dead
(Sam Raimi's come a long, long, way. He directed both Spider-Man movies, and it working on the third one as we speak. But before Raimi went mainstream with Marvel, he was already a God in the horror genre. Raimi is the undisputed King of low-budget horror, as shown in this movie. It had a budget or less than $10,000, yet it is still one of the best horror movies of all time. Evil Dead set the bar. It also introduced us to Bruce Campbell, one of the most bad-ass guys of all time)

Dune passed through several hands. Some spurious...

As to stumped: A famous actor with a role figure you did not think he could master, one of the top directors of the last century (including failures),
totally wiped from collective memory. (Even from his, it seems...)
West - Europa

Cidade de Deus (City of God). Seriously one of the best films I have ever seen. It follows the antics of a Brasilian street kid growing up to be a journalist, telling about the gangs and the corruption. It has one of the most disturbing movie scenes I've seen so far. (Young child executed gang style)

Battle Royale. Bloody ultraviolence. High school kids forced to slaughter each other on an island, or be killed by an explosive neck band.

Akira, though it doesn't reach the level of the manga.

Hmmm... obscure, huh? These aren't completely obscure, but anyway:

1. Strictly Ballroom - for quirky Australian humor
2. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - pure brilliance
3. The Spanish Prisoner - just for kicks.

Now that I think about it though, there was this really obscure trilogy that was released that was pretty good - Lord of the Something ... can't quite remember what. They were pretty good.

I agree with both of them. 'Dawn' was the best in Romero's 'Dead' films followed by 'Day'. I've heard he is trying to get studios to produce one last 'Dead' film, Land of the Dead.

I was surpriesed when I found out the Spiderman Director was the same guy who did Evil Dead.

I also have to nominate:

John Carpenter's The Fog
The Sacred Toaster
