Rule of Law. Plain good or a thing to be watched carefully?

What do you think of the concept of rule of law? Should laws that are just plain stupid or morally objectious still be adhered to? The morals and customs of a nation usually change quite slowly. Do you think the lawmaker can or even should be allowed to force change on the people? For example by banning something that is a widespread custom.

(I hope this hasn't been debated to death here earlier.)

I think you have to respect laws. I can certainly see situations where I would defy the law if I felt strongly enough against it, but I would never ask nor want for that to be accepted. Can you imagine a world where it was acceptable to break any law you felt was unjust?

That aside, sometimes a law has to be broken - and the potential consequences faced - all the same.

The concept is awesome. I say it depends on the law if it should be adhered to. Like the texas one that says you can not own a d!ldo or something along that lines. Who cares if you break it, (oh no the dildo police are coming after me). Any law that invades the private space of a person's home is plain ineffective and impossible to enforce without the infringement upon a person's 4th ammendment rights.

Personally, ideally, i try to stick to my own morality reservedly (i.e. not going out of my way to right wrongs but also avoiding unnecessary evils on my part) and only pay attention to the law in terms of not getting caught when an activity is illegal but technically not immoral by my standards [edit: or not engaging in it at all if it's punishment is more trouble than it's worth]. The law is arbitrary and irrelevant.

I can't imagine what Pi equals being law, i would've thought it was just a convention... Unless of course you're taking the mick...in which case i've made myself look more of a nob than usual... :/

Rule of law is wonderfull. It prevents laws from being arbitrarily enforced based on who is involved. It gives society a measure of equality.
