Is shaving your head a cop-out?

More and more people seem to be shaving their heads- and a great many of them are doing it because they're going bald anyway, and don't seem to able to handle it. I think shaving it off is a cop-out, people shouldn't be afraid of getting older and losing their hair- it's normal. I think the challenge is to try to do something with what you've got, not just giving up and denuding your skull.

What do you think? Is it a cop-out?

"If you want to be bald, do what I did; Wait a while. In the mean time, there's no excuse for walking around looking like a freshly circumcised dick." -George Carlin.

I want to look like Patrick Stewart when I inevitably lose my hair. He's the only person I can think of who made being bald look so awesome.

I did the bald thing for a while, when my bald spot got so bad that it wasn't worth pretending anymore. I grew my hair out and started wearing a ball cap everywhere and met my current g/f, and when I went back to the shaved head after we'd been together for about 8 months, she thought I was pissed all the time, so I grew the hair back and started using Rogaine. I'm one of the few that for whom Rogaine not only stops the hair loss, but actually helps regrow hair. I was slick bald over about 50% of my head, and now I'm now slick bald anywhere, and I've got thick hair on about 65% of my head with the rest a bit wispy, but still coming in.

I have been shaving my head for 9 years, I let it grow back about a quarter inch sometimes, and still no retraction of my hairline (knock on wood)

Well whats the big deal with guys (or girls) having flowing locks anyway? I adore shaved heads, or undercuts, on both.

I think it looks stupid when people who are going bald shave their heads but don't do it often enough. Then you can see they are partly bald but trying to hide it. It attracts attention to the fact that they are bald the same way as a bad combover.

When I was in the army I shaved my head every week. Many of my friends thought it made me look like Billy Corgan and kinda handsome, but my girlfriend (whom I wasn't involved with then) thought I looked extremely stupid. That's why the thought of shaving my head is only wishful thinking every summer.

Voilá, personal experiences that don't make sense to anyone here.

I have full, thick hair, but shave it off, i am a skinhead (no, before any moron asks, that does not equal nazi).
People who try to hide their growing baldness with the few thin strands they have left just look stupid. Nothing wrong with leaving hairs, but combovers or overcompensating long strands actually accentuate the problem. Come on, look at Hulk Hogan. A tower of muscle, but he looks ridiculous hiding behind a bandana and his strands.

Gene therapy is the way of the future. I no longer believe in baldness.

I have to shave my head because I get eczema on my scalp.
