If someone put pig genes into cattle to make their flesh taste like bacon would it be kosher?

Actually, if I could bring myself to beleive in god, and if shellfish, cheeseburgers, and bacon weren't so damn tasty, I would consider converting to Judeism.

bacon is made through a curing process that gives it most of its flavor

hence
turkey bacon

and that abomination
soy bacon *shudder*

so you could already make beef bacon i suppose

but if you did the gene thing, it would depend on the hooves of the resultant animal

Eating DNA would still be eating part of the pig, so it wouldn't be kosher.

I'd listen to Ashmoria if I were you. He's a documented expert.

It would not be Kosher just as you cannot eat meat off a plate that had dairy on it. It doesn't matter how minute the particles.

sure it would be kosher. The DNA is spliced with the cattle DNA creating a sub race of cattle (as the babies and what not will share more cattle characteristics than pig, and would be born through cattle/cattle intercourse).

You arent turning the cattle pig, you are modiying the cattle DNA. it ceases to be pig DNA once it is in the cow.

As long as it is a cloven hooved, cud chewing mammal, it is fine for kosher slaughter. However, there is more to kosher than just the animal. It must also be properly inspected, properly slaughtered, and properly cut.

Just because it's beef doesn't automatically make it kosher.
