I am relatively new to this forum and have been excited in watching all the debates on various issues. I highly respect everyone's opinion. But, I noticed something over the last week that kinda made me sad. Most debates seem to start off okay, but almost inevitably descend rapidly into personal insults and a "am not, are too" format. Many people believe that if you don't come to their side of the table, then you are uneducated, uninformed, or just plain stupid.

What ever happened to arguing a point simply on its merit? And more importantly, what ever happened to simply being able to admit if you were wrong?

OF COURSE, there are exceptions to this issue. OF COURSE many people here are excellent debaters. But, if you agree with me on this issue, or even if you don't, what can we do to make it better?

hehe, exactly. I would not speak politics or religion with anyone in person unless they struck up the conversation and I found it to be worthy of possibly causing some hard feelings between us. I hate it when people (friends and family and strangers) that all they can talk about is stupid ass politics and religions. These are the two things I just find to be better left to specific forums or events, they are to devisive and opinionated for anyone to change thier minds. There is to much emotion in these subjects for anyone to actually come across another with any less bias than the person they are arguing with, plus nobody learns anything other than how much they despise ever being a friend or talking to that person. Some things really are better left unsaid, especially in person. Dog Dicker!
