Perhaps it's white, middle-class directors trying to be multi-cultural. They need to have a black man in the film, but they don't know any black people- problem! Solution- the black dude dies first, everyone's happy... except the black dude. If you see films from the sixties and seventies and the 2D blacks in those, you'll be wanting them dead, whatever colour you are.

They dont 'always' die first. Hell, some even survive.

But here's a possible answer to the question of why MOST black people die early in the film: Because the killers are usually white. Which means that he has to catch the black guy by surprise to win. :)

I don't watch slasher films, but I would think "cliche" would be an acceptable possibility. Every genre has certain plot ideas/places/situations which are pretty much universal. They get reused over and over and over again, and yet it's almost expected.

I would say they kill the black guy quickly to eliminate the obvious choice for who the killer is. I'm not trying to be racist, I'm just saying that most people are stupid and they will often, rather quickly, think that the black guy is the killer.

You're not racist, you're just saying that most people are.

Makes sense.
Or maybe it is just in the mind of the storywriter.

I'm an avid slasher movie fan (Jason's my favorite!) and a large black friend of mine is as well. We have spent countless hours joking about how the black guys always die first. If they could, they'd die in the credits. Anyway, you'll notice that a lot of the movies, especially the more recent ones, will have (at least) 2 black guys. One to kill, one to have survive.

In my experience, they've got a funny one and a serious one. Typically the funny one dies. But they can kill the serious one, usually in an act to save one or more of the other actors (oddly enough, and this is my own opinion, I think he dies most often saving the female lead).
