I'm waiting for him to get hit from behind with something, causing his faceplate to come off and reveal the circuitry. See, in the phrase "Cheney appears almost human," appears and almost are key words.

Normally I hate the man...but you can't critisise him for apparently coming out in favour of equality.

Still, I bet if it wasn't for a member of his family being gay his values would be completely different. It's the same as the Reagans and stem cell research...

But its like, compassion, even in this middlingly poor little amount, is the first step towards this particular robot discovering his humanity.

Change occurs when conservatives suffer. Its sad that it has to come to that.

Are we saying that Dick Cheney has a Pinocchio complex? Or a Data complex, for you Star Trek fans out there...

Isn't his daughter a lesbian? That's why he's not opposed to same sex marraiges. Otherwise, he'd be with the president, whether or not he believed in them.

Yes, one of his daughters is gay. This statement really is one of the few things about him that dont make him into a total douche.

This statement really is one of the few things about him that dont make him into a total douche. You guys are reacting exactly as he wants you to. Don't you see they cynical manipulation here?

I posted this in the other Cheney topic:
Cheney is too astute a political operative for this to have been a mistake. The timing of this statement, a week before the Republican National Convention, is too convenient. He's had several years to come out in defense of his daughter's right to the same freedoms enjoyed by everyone else ... so why now?

I think he's trying to deflect convention rumble towards this relatively minor issue to prevent the newshounds from going into the RNC on any stronger scent. As long as we concentrate on the difference on this one issue, we're less likely to challenge the fact that the RNC is presenting the Bush Agenda rather than the Republican agenda.

As cynical moves go, this is a good one. I despise Cheney, but he's damn good at the game.

You know what's saddest about this? Cheney said, in essence, that he felt same sex marriage was a states' rights matter, but that the President felt otherwise, so he was going along with the President. In other words, he sold out his daughter's rights so he wouldn't conflict with the President. What kind of priorities are those?

He must want to walk his daughter down the aisle someday.

Actually, you have to look at the meat of what Cheney said.

He said he believed it should be up to the individual States. We all know that if left up to the individual States, there will be approximately 10-12 States at this point that would say "okie dokie".

Now, let's say Oregon says "okie dokie" to gay marriage, but Ohio says "hell no!"

A couple from Ohio decides to take a weekend trip to Oregon to get married. It's a gala affair and everyone's happy. They frame their marriage license and hang it in their living room. Thirty years go by and one of them gets cancer. As the sick one lays comatose and dying, the spouse says, "I think it's time to pull the plug and let him die". The docs say "okie dokie" .... but the State of Ohio says, "No! I'm sorry ... but you don't have the right to make that decision ... we do not recognize your Oregon license! Now go away while we put all of your spouse's possessions into probate."

Quick and easy answer: The couple should have moved to Oregon! Right?

WRONG!

1] American citizens, unlike those of some countries, cannot be forced to leave their homeland.

2] Article IV, Section 1 of the US Constitution ... look it up for yourselves.

What Cheney, in his sly Cheney way, is doing is actually advocating that certain States allow themselves to become "Gay Reservations". Fabulous as the casinos may be, it is a horrible violation of everything this country was founded on to leave such a simple humanity in the hands of the States.

Such things used to be called "Jim Crow" laws ... you can look those up too, if you are so inclined.

Cheney is still a sick Republican sleaze-ball with the face of a horse's ass.

his daughter is gay after all. I myself find it immoral and against biblical law and thus would not attend a church which performed or recognized such a marriage nor would I. I however also believe the government should be not involved in marriage it is a private and religious matter for invdividuals and churches and families etc. to deal with. Thats one of the problems we have is allowing the government to legislate morality and to take away the power and rights of the church and religious people, it needs to end

AAAAAAAIIIIIIIEEEEE!

The robot starts to appear human!

Heh, Spoffin I have to thank you for making this topic. Once I saw the title, I immediately thought up some new satire which will correlate the Bush administration to the characters ih The Wizard or Oz. Bush can be the Scarecrow, Cheney can be the Tin-man, but who can be the lion...
