You gotta love the ramen. The only problem are those freaks who drain the broth after cooking it.

It’s good and cheap but high in sodium. A perfect meal for one who is strapped for cash. Especially college students. But I’m on the meal plan which is expensive, undercooked, bland and under seasoned and gives me the shits. However even Ramen gets old after the fourth case.

No, no, no, you cook it with next to no broth so it all is hyper concentrated on the noodles.

Oh man, this should be debated, personally, I love the broth. The more the better. If you want more concentration, just add two packets!

Yes, but then you have an extra block of noodles.

The blocks are easily dispensable, as the cost next to nothing, plus they have other uses...like a door stop, or ammunition to be thrown out the third story window of your dorm room.

Well, yes, but why be wasteful when you can just add less water.

wow, a ramen debate. As for my oppinion, I like it with broth. Mainly because I like to take my time while eating them and the broth keeps the noodles warm.

But then there is the fact of the huge ammount of MSG in Ramen, causing our brains to turn to goo, or so they say.

Just mix that in with some macaroni and cheese. ;)

Get the full flavor of the salts and seasonings by draining the water off, then add butter, sprinkle the packet and prepare yourself for a taste explosion. (and a gallbladder explosion too if you happen to be like me and have a large gallstone that does NOT appreciate ramon)

Never tried both together though. I'll get back to you on that.

If I bring up the word spam to my great uncle (war hero) Hell go berserk, eating that for a couple years will do that to people.

But about ramen, I love the stuff, its so good, especially shrimp, thats my favorite, but the question is, top, or the M kind. I like the M kind personally, Maruchan I believe.

I felt I had to bring that up, as I once had an argument with a friend of mine, about ramen with broth, or strained dry. Technically, the battle still rages. It's sort of a friendly war, seeing who can get the most "allies" (ie: people who agree on the broth issue.)

At the last count, my "Brothian" forces out numbered the "Strainers" Although I'm sure my friend would dissagree.

And the worst part is that this argument, could, and did get even nerdier.

I love ramen!!!!!!

As to the broth, I'm really weird: I mix the boulion stuff in before the water boils, then when done I drain off half of the broth. (Sometimes I just drink it... ^.^)

Most people I know will break the noodle block up while it's in the bag, then open the bag, open and add the flavoring stuff, and shake it all up in the bag. Then they eat it dry like that.

I was never that big on it. But I went to Fukuoka in Japan (many consider it the Japanese ramen capital of the world) and had the greatest bowl of noodles I've ever had in my life. Since then I've been trying to recreate something similar (I usually throw in green onions, red pepper and eggplant). And what's up with "oriental flavor" ramen? What's it supposed to be flavored like? Orientals?

Of course, but it doesn't really taste that much like Orientals.
It taste like an oriental thats been sitting in a bag with a bunch of noodles for a couple fo days.
To get the real taste of Oriental, you'll haave to go out and hunt your own, they don't sell many in stores.

I like ramen. But the real stuff is so much better than the instant. Lucky me, there are 6 ramen restaurants in my neighborhood here, ranging from just ok to awsome. :D

But I went to Fukuoka in Japan (many consider it the Japanese ramen capital of the world) and had the greatest bowl of noodles I've ever had in my life.

Oooohhhh! That's a good way to start an argument with people from many parts of the country, most especially those from Sapporo and Osaka... :D

As for instant ramen, my favorite is probably the original Chiken ramen in it's "cup" form (it comes in a plastic bowl, not a cup).

The broth is actually affixed to the noodles. I usually eat it just the way Ando san intended it to be eaten, but sometimes add cheese, butter, or other improvements.

And you real instant ramen lovers may want to visit the Momofuku Ando
Instant Ramen Museum (http://www.irma-world.com/public/cont024.htm).

REAL japanese Ramen is the best. THE BEST!

Osaka ramen is incredible.
The best instant ramen availible in US is Sapporo Ichiban.

Cup ramen is ok.

I dont like brick ramen and it takes longer to prepare anyway.

I personally prefer an american alternative, instant spiced mashed potatoes, but i really dont like this type of food. If i need food on the go i drink a vial of one of those pre-prepared smoothies (Odwalla Future Shake being a favorite of mine)

post college poverty have forever tainted ramen in my book. eat it for weeks strait with no cash to by a change of pace, you'll never willingly eat those vile little noodles and salty flavor packs again.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to find some cubes with no MSG in the ingrediants list.(at least not obviously listed) So that is my staple.

Does anyone add veggies and/or meat to theirs?

As for the various flavors, I will have to go with the standard chicken ramen. You can't mess with that.

Yup, college and the days immediately after killed any kind of Ramen joy for me. When you HAVE to live on it for that long....I now have it about once a year, due to the fact that if I have any more, psychosomatic shakes ensue.

For those of you who have bad memories of instant ramen from uni, I suggest you find some real ramen. If you can find a restaurant serving real Chinese or Japanese ramen, I can (almost) promise that it will 100% cahnge your mind.

That's one of the most famous ramen shops in all of Japan (in downtown Osaka).

And those are examples of what a real bowl of good ramen looks like.

And for the real fanatics, here's a fun one - "homemade" instant ramen: http://mattfischer.com/ramen/

I love ramen! With the broth!

But I learned of two creative ways to eat it. One from my friend and one from my dad.

My friend brought them for lunch at our high school. He'd crunch up the dry noodles in the bag, then sprinkle in the seasoning, and eat it like that. I tried it, and it's good. Tons of salt at the bottom, not the best idea to turn it upside down to munch on.

My dad makes it like normal, but, when you add the seasoning, you can add one, two, or even three egg whites to make a great soup. Adds a lot of nutrition too!

Edit: Note, this is for the fakey stuff called Top Ramen, not the real stuff that you can buy in Japanese stores (Ramen is noodle in Japanese I believe).

Heathen.

LOL! oh god, that hurt.

And you if you add an egg to it - major upgrade. Just get the water stirring at a high speed, so you get a drip / egg-drop soup effect; otherwise you get gobs of egg brick.

steer clear of the creamy chicken - never got that cream to work out; was always kind of watery and nasty.

I torn between Oriental and Shrimp, but I'm leaning more towards Shrimp, because it's flavor is compatible with anything - Tabasco, Soy Sauce, and no, not ketchup you Canadians, eh.

Wow... I thought I was the only one who put eggs in my Ramen. Guess you learn something new every day. And also, Maruchan is way better than Top.

edit: and lemon juice too. Eggs and lemon juice. Unfortunately, I just checked the pantry, and all we have is one cup of that Maruchan instant lunch crap.
edit (again): I got Maruchan and top backwards the first time; fixed now. That instant lunch stuff still blows though.
