Is Anyone Else Tired Of....

Is anyone else tired of all these d*mn viruses and spyware that is going around? I know I am, I think we should find the creater of the very first virus, or the concept of viruses, whatever he/she was, and drag him into the street where everyone who has had a computer crash either gets to shoot him/her or run him/her over with the car. :mp5:

Perhaps some of you remember that Blastar worm that hit sometime ago, within the last year. Someone in my high school downloaded it, and it infected every single one of the school computers.

(>.<) Grrrrrr

The dozen or so students (myself included) and 2 teachers that worked for the next 3 weeks to revert the computers to normal and upgrade the security packs all wanted to kill that guy who created it.

Slowly.

And painfully.

I've always advocated injecting the writers of viruses with ebola. Give them a taste of a REAL virus. If they live, they've paid for their crime. If they die... c'est la vie.

If they catch the geeks who create or distribute viruses, spyware, mallware etc etc - they should be put in a maximum security prison. See how clever they think they are after 300lb. Bubba makes them his "wife"...:)

What really bugs me is that if you load up enough antivirus, firewall and other protective s/ware to stop most of this trash, half of your compluter resources go with it. :(

I'm using PC Cillin at the moment, which isn't too bad. I used to use Norton, but it's a real resource hog...

personally, i dont condone the use of viruses to destroy computers hard drives and stuff like that, but i think virus writers are brilliant people who are just using there knowledge in the wrong ways, these people are above you guys and never piss off one unless you like to install windows over again....

(BTW thats why theres this free little OS called linux that is preactically immune to viruses)

Well, it's not like we were around to fix computers all the time. We just sorta all knew enough about computers to be able to fix them when the virus struck, so our teachers let us out of class to do it. Can't blame us for not protecting a network we didnt have access on.

Most of those machines are just zombies, not many virus senders are stupid enough to actually send viruses(i?) using a trackable account.

Funny thing is, my buddy got arrested for hacking the school network. First, they were dumb enough to use '98. Then, they got XP, but never updated. So it was just chock-full of exploits. Funny thing was, after he cracked the SASI files and made his own account, he had more power than the district head. Too bad he got busted while printing out his transcript.

1) Get a decent firewall. (ZoneAlarm is free....)
2) Get a decent virus scanner (AVG is free....)
3) Get a decent spyware remover (Spybot Search and Destroy is free...)
4) Don't download warez, or open e-mail with attachments unless you know the person and confirm they are sending you something.

Very easy to avoid virus problems....

Until the patch was released, it wouldn't matter how up-to-date your machines were; all it would take would be one luser on a network clickity-clicking one wrong attachment and kablooey. The majority of current virus writers are script kiddies who couldn't code their way out of their own ass. The only accolade they deserve is a 1-5 year stretch in prison.

Viruses are easy to protect against. and a simple format destroys them.

But what can you say of the poor programmer in america, who was jsut fired because Bush encourages moving jobs to other countries, and who has no way to feed himself or get a job. It's natural he lashes back at society.

Aside from the rather obvious flaws with that claim, your solution wouldn't work. If anti-virus companies did produce the virus, not buying their product would cause them to make more viruses, not less; and the viruses would do more damage, thereby forcing you to buy their product.

I'd say to him - "Get over it dickweed: why should I lose megabytes of data and hours of work because your ass got fired? Deal with it like a responsible adult instead of like some punk brat with no respect for others." And then I'd kick his nads into the roof of his mouth.

But that's just me :)

Howeverly, it is rare in the public (esp. education) sector to have the wherewithal to keep every machine on a network updated and secure. Between an understaffed IT department and the dean's secretary, who downloads EVERYTHING sent in email, you're screwed.

Blaster = worm

Meaning they dident have to "download it" by being on a network (or internet) and not updated it was infected

And yes I HATE spyware
head of the networking department at my collage

4000 machines last year had to be spyware scanned :-D (and baster /welcha)

Why do you hate a registry editor? the viruii usualy dont use regedit ... they edit the directory directly rather then using a human registry editor

...about the Blaster virus... There is a very simple explanation for it. No matter how much testing Microsoft does, there are thousands of line of code for them to modify, and so, there is a chance of finding an exploit and that's what the creator of the Blaster virus did. It was designed to attack the ignorance of Microsoft and show the world the blundering ignorance of Microsoft operating systems and servers.

If there were no worms, viruses and trojans, our computer security would be lax and hackers could easily get into the deepest realms of a server and remove extremely sensitive information and leak it.

It's like slipping through a metal detector and then after not having it go off, turn around and draw the object with metal... this reveals a security flaw in the technology. The sane goes for computers.
