What's the best way to handle the scoring error that led to Paul Hamm's Controversial gold medal?

#1 Too bad for Yang...USA gets Gold, Koran Silver

#2 Swich them...Koran gets Gold, USA Silver

#3 Give them all Gold Medals...

#4 Whatever they do...dont Give them all Gold...that sux.

The honorable result would be for Hamm to give the guy he lost to his gold medal. I can understand why he doesn't want to, but the fact is that his gold is tainted. Hamm made a terrific comeback from twelfth just to get into medal contention--he shouldn't ruin that by holding onto a gold that he didn't win.

His stance is that he will do what the Olympic committee that deals with these sorts of things tells him to. What is immoral about that?

Only once simple solution: make them both fight to the death. Winner takes all.

Give 'em both a medal. I mean they gave Paul a medal he really did earn. And the other guy well I guess he can have a gold too since he did so well. But if the judges screwed up the players shouldn't be penalized for it.

His stance is that he will do what the Olympic committee that deals with these sorts of things tells him to. What is immoral about that? There's nothing immoral about it, but it is the less honorable action. The fact that exact protocol wasn't followed in the review of the competition tapes doesn't change the fact that the Korean gymnast was jobbed, and that everyone knows it now. As a result, Hamm's medal, through no fault of his own, isn't worth what it was before, because he didn't really win it. He wasn't the best gymnast that day, and whether or not the Olympic committee upholds that medal won't change that.

His attitude is more like this ...
...they complained efter the time limit...they are screwed...I win.

....I shouldn't even be dealing with this,"

....the problem started when the FIG decided to review the videotapes...they were out of time...they should have never accepted to review the tapes...

Apparently (or at least the Hamm camp claims) that if you reviewed the Korean's tapes, and fixing all the errors, you would end up docking more than what would be gained (he made some mistakes that weren't caught by the judges).

Well, they just announced S. Korea is appealing it, but the officials already said that once the medal is handed out the only way they can take it away is if the athlete is found to be in violation of the rules, not if the judges screw up.

I think it's time to rewrite the rules and appeals process, not take away his medal for their mistake, unfortunately.

It's not just that. It's more like, if you start handing out medals simply because you can't please everybody, it loses any and all significance. I doubt it will happen, but it's pretty common for that sort of "EVERYBODY'S A WINNER!" bullshit to seep into ground-level competitions.

Including Paul Hamm...how is it his fault? Besides, the judges were so biased against his brother the next night or so, that I wouldn't give the metal back if it was my choice. Also, I think I heard something about how metals cannot be taken away for judge's error and how the Koreans already broke a rule by going back and looking at the tape.

Update: Hamm's brother just got dicked over by the judges again...I'd keep the damn metal.

He's hiding behind a screwed up rule when he didn't actually win. That's what's immoral about it.

He's hiding behind a screwed up rule when he didn't actually win. That's what's immoral about it.Exactly my point (although I wouldn't go so far as to call it immoral). It's a grade-school move to act as though he actually won when now everyone knows he didn't, that the only reason he got the medal he did was because the judges screwed up. If he were magnanimous about it, he'd be a hero--instead, he's coming off as a petulant little child.

By waiting soo long, there is nothing that can be done to save the honour of the US team. By taking no action when it was clear the gold they got was not legitimately earned, they lost all respect and any idea of fairplay or sportsmanship.

But hey, why play by the rules when instead you can manipulate them to your own advantaged.
