Nightmares About The Future

I just have to get this off my chest. I have recently been bombarded in my sleep with horrible and disturbing dreams about war and disaster. I would say in the course of about 4 weeks i have had 4 nightmares, here they are.

1.) I am walking around in a boating dock that I have never seen before but apparently my high school is in that area. Upon entering the school I hear loud rumbling noises and as I look up the ceiling explodes and collapses on top of me. I am pinned underneath but forced to watch as shrapnel and debris fly around everywhere and planes drop bombs in every direction. The sounds the planes made were awful. The worst part of the dream was that I was talking to a fellow classmate just as the ceiling collapsed. The sounds of the bombs wake me up.

2.) The scene is set in a Vietnamese-like jungle. Opposing forces fire from behind the cover of trees. Bullets fire in every which direction. People all around me are riddled with ammunition and fall into the jungle water. I awaken suddenly with this image fresh in my head. Not much plot was involved in this dream.

3.) Terrorists have planted a nuclear missle in my backyard. I realize this only after talking to stranger who reveals himself as being a terrorist leader. He presses a button on a remote he has in hand and out from the ground which i am standing on a missle silo appears. He talks to me and tells me it's all over and launches the missle. I never actually see the disaster happen but instead I witness it happen over the news in which a map displaying the trajectories of missles all over the world which just happened to all launch at the same time. It's evident that the terrorists not only set one up in my backyard, but all over the world. The image of the map stays in my mind as i wake up.

4.) Perhaps the dream with the most plot, it is the future and an army official is talking to me saying that it was my mission along with a few others to stop terrorists from dropping a nuclear weapon from airplane onto a city (i dont know which) Then all of a sudden I flash forward into a more distant future that shows me how life has now become after the bombing which apperently I never stopped. "Memories" flash through my mind as I recollect my "mission" going wrong and having to witness the bomb go off. In this future the world is a corrupt place where police officers hardly enforce anything and outlandish behavior goes unpunished. Government organizations have become involved to personally feed people since food has become scarece and pverty is rampant. I get the image of my mother crying. I hug her and I wake up.

These are all frightening and they all take place in the future (although the high school one and vietnam one seem to show otherwise, I still get a futuristic feel from the dreams). These dreams are driving me insane. I dont actually think they are premonitions but rather I think i just have an aspect of my life I need to address.

Any thoughts about my sick mind?

Yes, stop paying attention to the news and read a nice fantasy paperback novel. I know this is very dismissal of your dreams, but really, they are only dreams. Usually it means somethign is troubling your mind and it sounds like it has to do with what we know and hear on the news and the media hype on certain issues.

My dreams are mostly about kicking a can, so i can't comment much.
They seem to be in a kind of movie like format.

In all fairness I dont think it's the news that's troubling me. I am not afraid to step foot out of my house but rather I believe these "terrorists" are manifestations of my uncertainties about my life.

Here are summarized reports of extensive psychoanalysis I have performed upon your dreams.

1. You want to have sex with your mom.

2. You want to have sex with your mom while she is eating beef noodles.

3. You want to have sex with your mom while you are wearing a turban.

4. You want to have sex with your mom while playing Risk.

Also, you should stop thinking that your dreams are really indicative of much.

Go Freud!

You forgot the one where he has sex with his mom while she's dying from radiation poison

I was beat to it but I was going to say "Thanks Freud!"

It's not like I actually believe these things are going to happen but it's just how my overly-creative mind reacts to fear. I know they are JUST dreams and NOT REAL. But reoccuring nightmares is my unconcious trying to tell me something is wrong.

I should probably see a shrink.

I can. I just chose not to, because to supress my unconscious desire to make such a joke would be the equivalent of having sex with my mom ... oh, damn it. -_-

Sounds to me like you've been playing too many video games. Now, I'm not of the opinion that video games cause violence, but it does seem like all of your dreams are the kind of weird scnario that might make up the plot for such a game.

Ugh... Although I admit that I do occassionally play video games, they do NOT involve terrorists who try to take over the world. I suck bad at those games...

I have it figured out, I have seen this before once when someone fell asleep in my class, when he woke up he was horrified, you are seeing the past through your dreams, your highschool collapsing is similar to a story a survivor of a roof hitting him with the force of the wind from the bomb on Heroshima, he was in a neighboring town of heroshima, then Viet Nam, that is the same exact dream the kid who fell asleep told me, almost word for word! the thing with the nuke in my backyard was a book written by Trumens wife (the guy who ordered the bomb to be dropped) and the last one is a mystery maybe you are the link to the next piece of the puzzle.

As concerns the video game hypothosis....

That seems a bit like a sacpegoat. I am a gamer myself, so my opinion may be slanted, but I seriously doubt these were brought about by videogames. I mean, dreams like these have gone on forever. Only in the 50's, the fellow watched too many movies. And in the 1600's, thy kin tath taken a few many barding from the village gaffer.

Personaly, I think your just nervous about something.

I've had my lot of nightmares personnaly but I guess the reasons for the ones I've had and still have from time to time are a bit different.
What you do or see during your day influences greatly your dreams, your brain works at night and dreams are the result of this activity, they generally don't make much sense (I personnally dream sometimes that i'm a rabbit roaming around in my own garden) but every once in a while, your dreams actually start to make sense. Just stay away from the news for some time, avoid watching violent TV programmes and such things, it could greatly help you.

But are you sure these are actually dreams ? People rarely remember their dreams, are you sure these "visions" aren't the result of another kind of mental activity ?

As a result my "first" PTSD, I would start to see things at the beginning of what would be the 3rd phase of a sleep cycle, right before sinking in deep sleep. What I saw was resulting of the trauma at the origin of the PTSD in question. The fact that they happened so early and inbetween two sleep phases prevented me from "sleeping" more than 20 to 25 minutes. This was only settled by using sleeping pills, and even then, the ammount of sleep cycles I would complete before this starting all over again was drastically diminished (2 to 3 instead of 5 or in other terms 3 to 4 hours and a half of sleep). Yet I would still have these visions and it went on for a long time.
It then changed into real nightmares I guess as a while after having ceased the sleep pills treatment it started over again but this time with real "nightmares" taking place in the paradoxal sleep phase of the 3rd or 4th sleep cycles. It still happens from time to times but more and more rarely.

Now this could be as pointed out before that you're nervous about something as stress tends to disturb sleep a little (you have the exemple of an extreme case here). Now, if your nightmares persist, do not hesitate to consult.

I dreamed Sadam Husein shot me in the head, then I turned into a ghost, flipped him off, and went to look for my ex in Buffalo o_O

The reoccurring one that kept bugging me was years ago, I had a dream where I was flying through a hotel, and it was party central, doors open, people screwing in broad daylight, all that. Then I found a section with boilers, and a huge ballroom with open glass, and everything was orange tinted, and it looked like a hospital scene from the 30's, bodies everywhere, etc

I had two dreams that felt pretty freaky. I dreamed that:

1. Members of the EU declared war on the U.S. and Canada, and that Southeastern Canada was bombed as the first strike. I think it was near your capitol...argh...what's the name of the Canadian capitol? Toronto? Ontario...Quebec?

2. The US was declared war upon by the WHOLE EU this time. And although I cannot remember much, I remember that we fought like hell.

I think you're reading to much into your dreams.
When I played FPSs I suffered a similar problem. I kept having dreams that were either survival horror or Unreal (The original story). Down to the crappy music.
I even kept trying to quit because I was getting my adze kicked (being mauled by zombies isn't so fun when you actually are there). Imagine running through a maze listening to crappy techno, roars, and death screams while desperately saying "Cmd-Q Cmd-Q Cmd-Q, Esc, Esc, Esc. Its not working, must be PS2. Start, Start, Start, Select, Select, Select."

Whats really weird is when you trip or fall inyour dream and you wake with a single spasm.

What follows is my interpretation of each of your dreams. Though worded like prophecy, I do not intend this as such - rather this is your subconscious making predictions about your future based of your experiences. The accuracy is thus limited by your experiences and intellect.

1) - Places/things which are personal to you will become strange, then go down the crapper

2) - Stress. lots of stress. you should chill.

3) - as per 1, but also that you feel indirectly responsible for these upcomming events and blame yourself.

4) just reinforces the other stuff. The world (as you know it - i.e. your life) is about to go down the crapper, and not only is it somehow your fault but there's nothing you can do to stop it: it's too late.

my advice regarding these dreams is as follows:

- Chill out. relax, calm down
- it is not your fault
- Stop crying about the spilt milk and go get a mop (e.g. start trying to fix the corrupt cops instead of blaming yourself for it)
- Chill
- lay of the hash/alcohol/games/whatever

or, as a more short term solution : stay up late. if you get tired enough and wake up early you won't dream.

Oh and please note, I am not an expert. just a know-it-all.

hope that helps.

Actually, I think these dreams show where liberalism is taking us. War through defense cuts, appeasement, and unwillingness to use force, poverty from the socialist agenda, Gallywinter's bit seems to add the breakdown of moral society, etc.
