Which Handheld Consol Has More Potential?

Personally I think the PSP will be the one to finally compete with the king, GameBoy. However, I don't think the GameBoy will be going anywhere. The DS, on the other hand, looks too gimmicky for me, and I don't think it'll last. If PSP gets some good games, I'll buy it.

Really, unless the PSP can show some good stuff, the Gameboy is going to rule for the near future, since Nintendo has the long-term experience, and it knows what it's doing.

The DS isn't intended as a replacement for Gameboy, it's a more intuitive interface for the people who've missed the 16-bit and 64-bit platforms, since the 128-bit consoles have many more aquired skills required.
I won't be getting it either, unless it shows something truly marvellous- And I'm not talking about a 3D Metroid game or 3D Sonic, since I'd prefer to play those on a fixed console.

I chose the Nokia because it not only saves me from having one more gadget to carry around. But it saves me looking like a big kid if I choose to play Doom while I'm out. (that may look ok for teenagers to do, but not for adults!)

Saying that, it wouldn't be my console of choice for games, because the games are way too fiddly, and gimmicky.

I've heard lots of good things about the PS handheld, so would have to go with that.

Ds, the only issue I had with it was it's looks, and now thats been changed then it should easyly beat the PSP. It's probably going to be cheaper and it has more fetures and of course better games.

I don't know...Nintendo's been lacking in the game department ever since the N64 days.

Ditto.

Although I'm getting sick of my GameCube and the lack of good games. There are only so many times I can play Eternal Darkness all the way through. Maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough for new games that don't suck though...

And heck, I still own a Gameboy Colour... not exactly the Saint of Technology, me :p

Nintendo has always been good at the handheld market. The GameBoy doesn't have the majority of the market. It IS the market.
The DS has some really good games on it.
My GC has seen a lack of Good Games as of late though :(
DS all the way.

I dunno, I thinks it's realised good games, Wind Waker, SSBM, Super MArio Sunshine ect. It's just that it's hard to make a completly revloutionary games anymore.

I balive the DS will allow Shigsy's creative talents to work.

Get Tales of Symphonia. I need to start it again. I'm about 80% through then I decided to take a break from it. It's really good. I also just got Madden 2005. I will be getting Baten Kaitos when it comes out. Maybe Pikmin 2. I'm going to wait for more reviews on that one first.

The PSP is more powerful, and will most likely hold true to the many franchises we saw made bit hits in the PS2 (Metal Gear, Kingdom Hearts, GTA, etc.) as well as some new ones (Death Jr. looks pretty interesting). However, unless Sony does something about the opening price, or prove that there's an ABSOLUTE good reason to buy the PSP than the DS, your going to see more people go for the DS.

The DS equally looks good, although the stylus thing doesn't appeal to me. The graphics are a huge plus, but still don't look like the PSP, IMHO. The games are much better than the ones the PSP will support early on (Sonic DS, Mario games, Metriod, Final Fantasy, etc.). But the DS itself looks like a giant brick.

So by a nose, I'd pick the PSP.

Ahhh.. This q. I will go with the Ds. It will cost 180 and the Psp 270. We haven't been able to play any PSP games yet. The graphics may not be ps2 grade. remember sony said that the ps2 would have 10x as much power as it actually does.
Ps: If the Xenon(Xbox 2) comes out first that means its graphics will be the lowest. And isn't power and graphics what sold most X boxes?

What's become evident over the last few years, is that PS and Nintendo don't occupy the same universe. Sure, there is cross over and hardcore gamers will always have a Nintendo somewhere, but in reality they appeal to different audiences. I don't expect the PSP to capture the 'capture the cute and fuzzy animals and have them fight' demographic of youth, kitch, and 'chick' games. That last part is going to get me in trouble, but if you think about it you know what I mean and I don't imply that women only play one type of game....ah, hell-it's too late to dig myself out of the masoginy hole......

What I'm trying to say is that the PSP will aim at a different demographic and hardly make a dent in the Gameboy's niche. Fail or succeed, the Gameboy will largely be unscathed.

It's about the games more than anything. XBox struggled when it tried just graphics, and succeeded when it got games people wanted to play. As much as I hate the XBox for philosophical reasons, it did on-line right. Nothing kills the joy of SOCOM more than some jackass with a gameshark....

Yup, that's pretty much what I was thinking. The PSP will appeal to the lad generation who have disposable income to spare plus some kids 'because it looks cool and Jimmy down the street got one for his birthday'. The DS plus whatever real replacement for the GBA appears will always sell to the hardcore who value quality gaming over large back catalogue. Let's face it, nobody with any sense wants 3,000 Splinter Cell ripoffs.

And for those bored with their GC? Animal Crossing. Released in Europe 24th September.

An Amazing Brick of fun!
The PSP just can't compete with the GBA the GBA has over 1500 Games.
And think about this. No matter your income you can game. You can get a GBC for 10 bucks and some games for another 10. So no matter how poor you are you can afford a GameBoy of some sort. And even the GBA SP is still incredibly cheap at 100 Dollars.
And over 1500+ Games to choose form. You just can't go wrong with a GameBoy. There IS and this is not a debatel fact. You WILL find somthing you like on a GameBoy.

The PSP looks like a Plam Piolet, A really crappy one to. It's a copy of the “Zodiac” a PDA with kickass games and an analog stick. One my ferinds has one. It looks and plays just like an N64, Though it runs a bit high,340 Dollars.

Yep. This is another one of nintendo's great idea's.
The Gameboy has a wonderful Keep It Simple Stupid kind of idea. And it works great.
The DS is not so simple. But it costs much less than the DS and will have better games.
