Who pwns?

Well that is really hard to answer, as both have their own styles. But if you go by album sales then it is Led Zeppelin.

Personally, I was never a fan of Led Zeppelin (not my style of music.) So, Pink Floyd, but not by much.

Hey, no fair. My two favourite 'oldie' bands. How can I choose?

Ah, Led Zep.

Completely different styles of hard rock. Floyd is psychadelic rock, while Zeppelin is the standard bearer in hard rock. You can't even compare them.

Zeppelin everytime, although Pink Floyd were an awesome band.

Pink Floyd is the most consistently good of the so-called "classic" bands, I love them!

they're both monolithic dinosuars that thankfully no longer produce anything.

Pink Floyd went down hill after Syd Barret left and Led Zep are just plain crap

thank fuck punk came along!

oh....and no ....Led Zep are not 'hard rock' by any stretch of the imagination

Oh yes, the lyrical skill of Johnny Rotten and the amazing basswork of Sid Vicious far exceed anything Robert Plant and Jimmy Page did.

Oh, and yes, Led Zeppelin is considered the fathers, with Black Sabbath, of the most commonly accepted definition of "hard rock".

You should realize, that those are fighting words to just about everyone on the planet that knows good music from their ass.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines "Hard Rock" as: A style of rock 'n' roll characterized by a harsh, amplified sound and loud, distorted electric guitars.

Tell me how "Rock and Roll", "Immigrant song", "Moby dick", and just about everything Led Zeppelin ever did(Excepting "Fool in the Rain") do NOT fit under that category.

Admittedly, Syd leaving Pink Floyd was a blow, but Roger Waters is at least as good as him, and David Gilmour can do things I wasn't certain a guitar was capable of. Listen to DSOTM in a dark room with headphones on, we'll see how you feel

And punk is better? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't punk, for the most part, pride itself on the fact that it's hardly considered music?

I'd imagine that there are the same number of people who can name a Ramones album as can name every single song, and what order they are in, of DSOTM

Did you grow up in the 70's? no? didn't think so...

It is apperent you have no idea what the Sex Pistols was about....which is pretty ironic but then I doubt you are anywhere near to grasping this subject

Do you deny that LZ and PF did not end up as monotonous stadium bands?

As for your definition....Sabbath is in no way comaparable to LZ.....

What does growing up in the 70s have to do with anything? Because I didn't grow up in the 70s, my ears are incapable of hearing music from the 70s?

Your claim that punk rock is better than Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd has nothing to do with what they stood for. Whatever they stood for, it doesn't change the fact that they were musically untalented.

And I've never heard Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin at a stadium. Gary Glitter, KISS, yes. Floyd or Zeppelin, no.

What would you consider "hard rock", seeing as how you don't seem to accept the common definition?

It's music, it is just simplistic, which is the point. I think that it is better, but that is just me.

anything vs anything is apples and oranges when you get down to the fine details.

that's why competition gives lots of choices and very little choice.

the floyd and the zep were both cool in their own ways, pretty much equaly so to each other, but not nearly in the same league as hobb's bard's big bang or chick chorrea or tangarene dream or zagar and evens or emreld web or very early jefferson airplane or jethro tull or iron butterfly or cream or ...

why not computers vs televison or modems vs voice phones or park train proportioned transit systems vs automobiles or wind/solar/hydro vs oil/coal/nuke

if you want real choice encourage and favor low stress diversity, if you want lots of phoney pseudo choices and very little real choice that's what the absurdity of oranges and apples going head to head gives you

LOL :)

(re my comment about punk was that it was a good thing that punk came along to break the strangle hold that these super bands had...I did grow up in the 70's and it was pretty much a constant diet of the same stuff....got to be far too boring...unless one was into disco...*ugh*....so in regards to punk it was its reaction to the dino bands...as far as my comment about LZ being crap...I really do think that there were a lot of other rock bands that put LZ to shame...from television to amun duul.....)

I love the fact you use the American Heritage Dictionary...for a discussion of 2 UK bands! LOL!!!

If you want to talk about people making guitars do amazing things...Brian May...
