Does post-count matter?

When judging other posters, does post count matter? Do you take someone more seriously if they have a high number of posts? Or are they just spammers?

For me, I'll admit I automatically have a little predjudice against people with small post counts.

No, not really. I don't pay much attention to how many posts I have. Lots of the time people with fewer posts are better posters because they put more thought into each message.

It doesn't matter to me, either, but I like to see my rank go up when I post a certain number of times. I'm curious what the highest rank is (if there is one)...

Yes it, yes it does.

I know this, because the Government told me so.

On some level post count is an indicator or seniority or experience on the forum. Of course there are some people with many many posts who are still considered newbies and some with very few who are amongts the oldest and best respected, so it's not a perfect measure.

The worst spammers have very high post counts (i'm thinking Opal Isle here for one) so you definitely cant take that to mean that their opinion are any more worthy. On the other hand, I am still often suspicious that some nations with low counts are in fact puppets.

with the number of "fresh starts" that certain people have, it cant mean that much to have a large post count except to indicate that you havent been a troublemaker

I know some of them are spammers. Isn't the Paradise Club just one big spam thread? I know people rack up the posts in those threads...I'm proud to say I've never posted in a Paradise Club thread. :)

It's not the count, sweetie, it's what you post in it. ;)

Seriously -- you'd do better to consider the quality of the play and writing of the person you are dealing with, even before you consider their join date, to assess whether or not they are worth responding to.

I suppose I respect people with high post counts. At least I used to, back when the word games were banned and before the spam forum. Now, it could be either a lot of debate or a lot of spam. Still, I admire those who can actually get that high.

I like to just post in every topic in the general discussion board to get my post count up. Does anyone have a list of ranks and posts needed for each?

To some degreee, post counts can give you an idea of how expereinced someone is on NS. A lot of the time (MKULTRA) its a short, almost spam type message. It also gives a note on either how much time you spend on the boards as well as how long you have been a member (in most cases).

I tend to mistrust people with low post-counts. They tend to be the kind of people who enter a thread and shout something and never come back.

Well I have a very low post count, but its because I only joined up yesterday. Don't think its very fair to generalize and lump us all together like that. I am very experienced on forums, been posting on 3 others for quiet a while, and am sure it won't take long for me to get the feel of the place here. The main problem I have noticed with answering threads in NS, is that the place is so big. I posted half an hour ago, and the thread concerned has fallen from top of the front page to halfway down. Wonder if I will be able to find it tommorrow :).

On a forum like this where people have to restart if they forget to put their nation on vacation, not everyone with low post counts will be silly spammy newbies...

Just the ones that give me a cheap laugh every now and then...

Oh that's not exactly what I meant, sorry.
But there's 2 different kinds of people with low post counts.
The ones like you who are just passing trough so to speak, since, well, you start with 0 posts. ;)
And the 'people' who flame and 'just happen to have' low post counts. *cough*puppet*cough*

It mattered for me until we moved to jolt. The jolt spammers just pissed our top posters to the ground.

I look at post-counts this way... it just means some people have been here longer and have more knowledge than me on the game (when combined with their Join Date). Otherwise, I ignore it.

Yea, Join Date is important, but it is very screwed, because with me, the date you see is my resurrection date, not my actual nation creation date. I have like 2 billion something population so...

I think having a high postcount is great simply because you can brag about it :D

Example, at the site in my siggy (Social Spam Alliance (http://www.myfreeib.com/members/?mforum=SSA)), people will brag for me about my postcount.

Post counts aren’t for judging people and their posting ability. It’s for having parties once reaching a certain level.

I'd say look how long they've been on the board, watching and listening, as opposed to blathering. :p

Some of that blathering has been interesting, however.... :D

I am a bit judgemental of people with very high post counts in a very short amount of time (i.e. 1 month old,2000 posts)-are they bedridden?are they transmitting from a planet with a hostile atmosphere?
Or the opposite-
Very low post count over a long time(i.e. 4 months old,5 posts)-are they still alive?
But it should be based on quality, not quantity

Often those with high post counts are RPers, I have no respect for RP, and so generally treat those with high post counts as sad weirdos who spend too much time on the net.

On the other hand, they may be highly experienced debaters.

So I ignore post count and assess a post on its content, not on some bias because of the posters previous posts.

Mass debaters.
Nothing wrong with that.I often enjoy Mass debating.
