Ferris Buller's Day Off is the only decent one I can think at the moment.

Do Suburbia and Made In Britain count as 'teen' movies? For that matter does Scum manage to sneak in despite having been made in 1979 - on the cusp, as it were?

If Scum counts then I'll choose that.

Another good film that the director did was The Firm (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095158/), which I quite liked too.

A film set in an all male borstal (basically prison for teenagers). It doesn't really fit the typical description of 'teen movie' by any means, but it is definitely a valid and powerful examination of what it is to be a teenage male. The first time you watch it it will leave you cold.

The Breakfast Club is the only one that I watch whenever it's on :)

Ferris Buelers day off is an all time great movie but i put it in a clsoe second to Fast times at Ridgemont high. That movie is pure genius. I am only guessing that it was made in the 80's though - could have been the late 70's but who cares. Greatness is timeless.
Does "Back to School" count as an 80's teen movie? Regardless, it's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Better Off Dead for comedy.
Some Kind Of Wonderful for movies about teens who "feel things" (I hesitate to use the word drama).
Sixteen Candles .... "No more yanky my wanky ... the Donger need food!" ... with honorable mention to Pretty in Pink.i love that movie. :D

Does Dirty Dancing count? If so, I'd have to say that one is my favorite. But Ferris Bueller's Day Off wasn't bad, either.

I don't have a single favorite, so I'll name as many as I can think of (in no particular order):
The Breakfast Club
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Sixteen Candles
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

I'd say 'Made in Britain' was a teen movie, it just doesn't go the same way as sickly American teen movies about girls and boys having "issues" about what to wear at the prom and whether or not they're unattractive to the opposite sex.

The Goonies or Weird Science. (Geeze, nobody's nominated that yet?)

I'm noticing a pattern here - the UK posters seem to be going for 'life is hell and there ain't no way to beat the system' movies, while the US posters seem to be going for 'ugly duckling' movies - the US go for the 'we're all beautiful and special underneath' films, while the UK go for 'well, actually, some of us are c*nts and it was you bastards that made us that way' films.
Anybody able to tell me the name of a Canadian movie about a teenager sent to borstal/juvenile prison from the late 80s that features the main character singing the lyrics to early Misfits and very early Suicidal Tendency songs in one scene? I saw the second half of the film in about '90 and have no idea what it was called.

I would have said The Goonies, but I don't really consider it a teen movie. Then again, that's just me.

Yo, Berk, I'm feeling you on Better Off Dead. It's without a doubt one of the strangest teen movies I've ever seen.
Everyone else has mentioned the classics--Fast Times, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller--but I'll throw in another one I think was great that no one has mentioned--Pump Up the Volume. Highly underrated film in my opinion.

Then:
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Breakfast Club
and Bad Boys (no one mentioned Bad Boys either... awesome flick)

Bad Boys? or Lost Boys? I don't think Bad Boys was an 80s movie, and it certainly wasn't a teen movie. But Lost Boys was a great uber-cheesy vampire flick with Kiefer Sutherland.

I just didn't like weird science that much, it was ok, but not ground-breakingly aweXome.

My curiosity got to me and I pulled it out--came out in 1990, which I suppose could be argued is the last year of the decade, but I don't really feel like arguing. :D
