Which was better: the original Democratic Party or the original Republican Party?

I'd have to say the Democratic Party. They started out good. They were once the party of the people, the party of limited government, states' rights, etc. The Republican Party, on the other hand, was born bad. Our first communist President, Abe Lincoln, was also our first Republican President.

lincoln was no communist, though i'm sure the socialist revolutions in europe were somewhat on his mind, as were the objectively shitty conditions of industrial capitalism for most people.

I don't mean the type of communism many NS players are thinking of, but Stalin's brand of communism. Were Lincoln alive in the 20th century, most likely he would be an officer in the KGB.

The original republican party.
The current one is nothing like it.
The Dixicrats moved in.....
Lincoln in the KGB? Hardly.
Now Lee? That's a possibilty.

Lee was a devout Christian, a gentleman, a humane person, staunchly anti-slavery, and refused to bring the Confederate Army down to the Union Army's level.
Lincoln, on the other hand...
Launched a military invasion without the consent of Congress;
Suspended habeus corpus;
Illegally imprisoned thousands of Northern citizens just for disagreeing with him;
Censored all telegraph communications and imprisoned dozens of opposition newspaper publishers;
Nationalized the railroads;
Used federal troops to interfere with elections;
Confiscated firearms;
Deported Clement L. Vallangigham, an opposition member of Congress, for disagreeing with Lincoln's income tax proposal.
And (this has nothing to do with Lincoln being a communist, but it's worth mentioning) he was a white supremacist.

I'd have to say the original Republican, if only because of their desire to reintergrate the Union.

I see an option for other, and in parenthesis(sp?) next to it I see please specify. So I guess it is an option isnt it?

True, but it doesn't answer the poll's question.

Then why did you include a irrelevant(sp?) option?

In case someone's opinion didn't match the other choices (example: "I think they were both born evil, but [insert name here] became good later one!" or "I think they both started out just as good!")

Theres already an option that says they both sucked, so why not instead of other have one that said they were both good?

Yes I'd have to agree and say the dems but I've liked many republicans and of the two would definetly choose the republicans these days.

I respect the origional republican party, simply because they're the first and only 3rd party to ever win an American Presidental election.
