Now, let's get this straight... you're saying that if the majority were leftists, and hence a leftist goverment was elected, the leftists would reform so they would be against said government? Wouldn't that put them in the right wing, rather than the left, and therefore mean they cease to be "leftists"? Or maybe the simplistic left-right spectrum just isn't up to explaining your disjointed theory. How about...oh, I don't know, an example of how "leftists" do that.

I always understood the USSR was an example of extreme leftist beliefs in action. I may very well be wrong because I don't much care for categorizing governments on the left-right scale, I think it's far too arbitrary.
