When you illegally download movies, you leave a trail....

Anyone else sick of this ad? I no longer download movies since I'm a very paranoid person about viruses and hacking. But I don't get the logic in this ad, what kind of trail do you leave? How the heck can they pinpoint one trail? Shouldn't there be millions and millions of these "trails"?

I mean, I leave a trail when I walk. Are they just gonna have a dog sniff down the whole city to find my trail? Isn't that what these guys say they'll do?

I'm not really sure what "ad" you are referring to, but I suspect that you mean Spyware, which is software that is illegally installed on your computer by embedded programs in internet sites or some files. These spyware programs can track various pieces of information about the computer in which they reside and send such info back to its creator. Since it is automated, the number of people who have such spyware is irrelevant. Get a program like AdAware or SpyBot - Search and Destroy to find and eliminate spyware on your computer.

Not quite sure what ad you are talking about (due to differences in country I think).

But in Britain they are currently revamping the "Piracy funds terrorism" campaign for a new generation. And have released one along the lines of "You wouldn't steal from a freind, you wouldn't steal a bag (then does the same thing for a few more things, all with a 'heart jerking' scene) and finishes off, why would you steal a movie?"

The fact that film studios are rolling with and aren't seen as human couldn't be it, right? Also, bizarre to appeal to people who aren't theives anyway, whilst at the same time making those who get a bargain DVD at the local market on a par with a petty criminal.

Oh yeah, maybe now I've figured out what you mean. Film companies have begun leaving small indentification numbers on early release DVDs that are supposed to go to movie reviewers but are sometimes pirated (and are the sole reason why movies get released online before in the theaters). The companies then use these indentification marks to track down piraters and prosecute them. So, caveat d/ler (downloader/buyer beware). I wish I knew how to say downloader in Latin, that would be cool.

No, it was just the first 'modern' word that came into my head.

personally, i like that they are essentially calling a huge chunk of people pirates these days. it allows us to get our thing for pirates out in the open.
