[NWV] forumbanned, so he's not going ot reply to this for 2 weeks

REJOICE! One down, many to go. Hopefully this forum can be cleared of counterproductive individuals and only those left can debate in a civil manner and bad taste in humour can run rampant.

I'm happy because the threads in which this person posted degraded into an offensive stream of distasteful replies.

Any thoughts, now that I've shared my 2-cents without anyone asking.

No, I just don't believe in racism! There is a very big difference. Also, I am not a Nazi, so don't call me that, because that implies I'm Anti-semitic, and that is a bloody insult, since I would sooner shoot myself than engage in any form of dsicrimination. Also, I am left-wing, and thirdly, this isn't censorship, this is just wanting racism to be kept in check. If I was about censorship...let's hope it'll never come to that because then I'd have to shoot myself.

I don't mean to be rude, but any restriction on free speech is technically a form of censorship; it doesn't make it NOT censorship just because the guy might have said things you found offensive. I personally have not read his posts, however, so I can't really comment if I agree with the mods or not.

This was meant to be a good thing. I was happy that there was some real justice around here and that someone got dealt with.

I dont think races can be barbarian but certain cultures can if they dont respect basic human rights--does anyone think China is a civilized nation?

I wish I could be happy about NWV being gone, but frankly I feel that there are several out there who are much worse and much more deserving of the ban. One mostly harmless poster who was careless with his words is not the same thing as some of the more hateful posters who carefully choose their words to avoid being banned.

I believe that the problem actually stems from the person's use of language more than anything else. If not for the use of language, I don't think there would have even been an issue.

We should remember that written and spoken words are very powerful tools and if used for naught can be very dangerous, making the situation worse than it ought to be.

I think we ought to make a distinction between governments and cultures. The Chinese government is brutal and oppressive, but that doesn't make the Chinese people barbarians. Furthermore, while we should be critical of other cultures and governments, we should not be so vain as to ignore our own failings.

Ok according to Nazi hes greek and he hates the turks because there barbariac invaders who commited genocide against the greeks. According to him everything about the turks is wrong and there all evil. Now the Turks are muslim.

But yet one post away hes complaining about how the muslims are being mistreated and how the western world is screwing everything up. BUT he is part of the western world and completely hates the most moderate middle eastern muslim country.

Anyone see any fundamental flaws in his reasoning?

His posts were rather inflammatory, filled to the brim with anti-American and anti-Patriotism (only American) talk, but I can attest it is possible to have a civilized conversation with him. I carried one out over about 2 or 3 pages discussing the role of a history teacher, so it was not like he was incapable of doing so.

Ah, you've implied it right there!

The reason many others aren't banned is because of their choice of words. Because they made good use of the words they have, they can say a lot more because they can say it in such a way that it is still their opinion but containing nothing incriminating.

what was the exact quote that got him banned? or did the mods just gag him cause he was making too many controversy posts (cause they sometimes do that too)

he was warned for flaming in that thread but when a mod checked his record he was already warned for flaming so all those flames in that one thread pushed it over the edge.

Greek Cypriots to be exact, his uncle was one of them who was killed, during the 1974 invasion of Cyprus (I presume at that time anyway).

That's what almost everyone who has argued with him has tried to point out, but his usual rebuttal is that "you didn't lose someone to this barbarians" and touts of other Turk atrocities. His ardent belief in this, while criticizing others (particularly Americans) for almost the same thing, leads many to get involved in flame fests with him.

But think what happens when he comes back from the ban, suitably wiser and low on self esteem - and finds that everyone was happy to see him go?

I KNOW!! He realizes the errors of his ways! :D but...only in a perfect world. Seriously? I think NWV may reform for a while, but, may or may not regress, hard to say.

I agree very much so.

The same can be said for America. I hate their corrupt government and its policies, but as much as I think some of the people are ignorant, I don't hate them because they are separate from the government, plus there are many decent Americans.

The sad thing is, the topic that got him banned was originally the only post of his that I found to be interesting. I'd never met a European nationalist before (meaning someone who is ardently pro-EU), and it was interesting to see what such a person believed. It was... educational. I'm not trying to say that he was representative of all European nationalists, but he was definately as pro-EU as the pro-US patriots he claimed to despise, which I found fascinating, seeing as how I could not figure out how he was able to reconcile the two beliefs. If only the topic had stayed away from Turkey it would have never escalated that far, I think.
