Has anyone got their results today?

Again there have been accusations of dumbing down our originaly gold standard educational exams. There have also been the claims that it is simply that students are brighter and teachers are better, and getting.

Any thought on the dumbing down of A-levels (or lack of if nessesary)?

Is Media Studies any easier?

I took fairly established subjects at A-Level (History, Politics and Physics and did fairly well in them) and have looked at my sisters coarse work. It didn't seem that easy (or at least, as easy as everyone said).

Considering my result in maths, I doubt it's dumbing down.

Either that or I'm a retard.

I am not discounting the latter.

well i don't really know, i'm just starting 6th form and i used to go to a private school but i'm changing to a 6th form college, anyway my old school is refusing to let people take media studies for A Level because it's seen as an easy option

Honestly, I have no way of knowing. Personally I think that I have better things to do with my time then trawl through past exam papers seeing if things are easier, or if an individual corse is easier.

Maybe some sad git has done that :o

Anyway, there can only really be a finite amount of basic questions that can be asked, so studying past exam papers should get you through it, because iirc they just about always ask the same thing (although in a slightly different way)

I was told by my AS maths teacher that Maths was one of two subjects that got harder with the introduction of the modular system.

I realise that it is a subjective viewpoint, but you may get comfort from it (I did anyway).

GCSE results next week.

According to my maths teacher (dept. head) maths has become increasingly easier for many decades now. Also, that Pupils are becoming less adept at stuff due to unimpressive teaching from primary and nursary schools.
I got a B in maths. Was pretty chuffed. Dunno if exam was easy tho. I hear England only gets there results now. Scotland got em ages ago. 8)

Hmm, reminds of many in my year.

My advice is, don't worry about. Now with ASs, you can work hard in your first year of college and still successfully apply to a good uni.

However I have never been one to worry about exams (I have practically been told that "This year is the most important year of you life" ever since I did the 11+, I suppose by the age 16 one become quite blasé about what one is told by teachers) ;).

I'm sure you won't do too badly, although I suppose it is too late to say good luck.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you get them in?

Although, well done. They seem very good.

It's not dumbed down.
Teachers are now more used to the new 'retard' system of conducting A-levels so can sort out the problems this system throws up better.
Also, pupils are more dedicated as they feel they have to go to uni.

I don't think the full questions are getting any easier, its just that now each question is split into sections which you can work through in maths and most sciences. All it means is that someone who may have got 0 marks for a question in the 1980s can now get a few by knowing how to start.

A/S levels, 4A's (physics, history, geography and general studies),1C (chemistry)
