Neanderthals invented fire.
Sapiens invented the flamethrower.

Actually, Neanderthals cross bred with Cro Magnons which is where the red haired gene came from. As Cro Magnons outcompeted Neanderthals, the Neanderthals moved further north to the colder regions of Scotland and Ireland where they were more suited to the environment then Cro Magnon. That's why Scots and Irish often have red hair.

However, to all Scots and Irish, this is not a bad thing. Neanderthals were very inventive and were tougher than Cro Magnons, as well as still being in themselves human although not our direct ancestors.

You are aware of the complete lack of biological evidence to support this theory, right?

So you're saying the Scottish and the Irish are a sub race of humans?

First, sub race means physically nearly indentical and fully compatible DNA. The same species, just different physiology.
Also, no. Scots and Irish are as human as everyone else as Cro Magnons eventually came to those places too. Scots and Irish have the same human DNA as the rest of us, there's just a greater abundance of Neanderthal genes.

The Neanderthals almost certainly interbred to one degree or another with Cro-Magnons. They're still here. I've always wondered who the Picts were and where they came from before the Celts drove them to extinction.

The Celts originate from the European mainland. Before they invaded the British Isles, the rocks were home to the Picts.

The "Picts" were (probably) an amalgamation of pre-Celtic and Celtic peoples, with no more relation to the Neanderthals than anyone else. The name is first recorded by the Romans (some 30,000 years after the Neanderthals had disappeared), probably as an insult, maybe as a reference to tattooing. The Irish name for the Picts was Cruithne, meaning "the people of the designs" and the name of a legendary Pictish founder-king, although whether "designs" refers to tattoos or to rock art is unclear. The best evidence of their language suggests that they spoke a form of Brythonic Celtic. The Celts -- itself a generously vague term -- didn't drive them to extinction, either. The Pictish and Scottish kingdoms amalgamated and the royal families and aristocracies (and more, too, probably) intermarried. It's probable that most Scots today are as much, if not more, "Pictish" in descent than "Scottish".

Final Fascinating Fact: "Cruithne" is also the name given to the earth's recently-discovered second moon...

Really glad to see that 2 people have paid enough attention to argue that neandethal and sapien are different species (at least I hope they are arguing from the latest data that may suggest this....)

And, out of curiosity, for those who voted poorly worded, please tell me how it was poorly worded, so that I may amend my ways...
