I cant' help but notice that there are a lot of topics devoted to pushing atheisim here, so I thought I would ask my own question.

Why do you care so much? Does the Idea that some people belive in God infurate you so much that you have to spend hours of time and tons of brain power trying to logically prove that there is no God?

It just seems like a waste of time.

I agree, it's the same old issues over and over and over and over. It's sickening. Why don't we discuss prostitution being legalized at a reasonable price? We need more escort services!

Wait....Why do you automatically assusme that it's the Atheists pushing these threads, picking these fights? Every thread I've looked at is started by someone claiming to be a theist, a christian to be specific. So why is it that you automatically go and start blaming the atheists?

Good idea. I am new to this, plus I am at work, so I have to navigate around and see how to create my own thread!

No, there are topics discussing atheism and theism.

I ask you the same: why are you so angry about there being topics about atheism?

Seems like a waste of time on your part.

Why must we debate things like religion?
Why can't we go back to the old ways, when you just assumed your neighbor was an ignorant sock lover and left them to it?
Or perhaps the older old ways, when you just assumed that your neighbors believed the same things as you and wouldn't mind being sacrificed for the glory of the elder gods?
Or the oldest old ways where debates on religion consisted of the folowin conversation:
"I'm right because my god or gods says so."
"Well I'm right because I've got this big sword."
"Well I'm right because I've got this big army."
"Well then why don't you prove it."
Back then gods were extremely fickle and sided with whoever could bring the biggest sword to the table, or maybe gods had nothing to do with it and people won holy wars the same way they won regular wars.

I'm not even really an Atheist myself, however, to answer your question, the reason atheists often care to disprove religion is because so many religious types push their beliefs on Atheists. Most people I know think I'm an atheist, and you have no idea how many Christians (no other religions, probably because christianity is the dominant religion where I live) try to "convert"me. It gets really annoying, and the more I can convince their religion is false (in my opinion it is, not going to turn this into a debate about whether or not it's false though) the less I have bothering me....

atheists dont believe anything
its not a club
there is no dogma
no meetings
no dues
no handbook
no secret handshake
no rituals
no requirements past subscribing to the (all too evident) fact that there are no gods.

some individuals may believe that 2 wrongs make a right, others will be exactly opposite. it depends on the individual eh?

I'm very interested in criticising religion because my brain simply cannot accept the existence of a god/s. I just find it incredibly nonsensical and stupid. I can understand why some people want to believe in a god because of the promise of a nice happy afterlife and because it makes their lives much easier (as they have a pre-determined moral code of conduct, they don't have to wrangle with complex moral issues themselves). Also the amount of incredibly terrible things done in the name of religion sickens me. How is it possible to say that the fundamentalist Muslims who crashed the planes into the WTC are wrong? It is their religion, after all, and it has as much of a rational claim to being true as any other religion. Think of all the things that have been done in the name of Christianity (Spanish Inquisition anyone? Or was that Catholicism? Not really much difference anyway). Religion is impossible to fully rationally prove or disprove, but humans hold it dear to them with such vast importance that it becomes an excuse for all sorts of behaviour that cannot rationally (if one accepts that all religions are equally valid) be condemned. Fundamentalists in the USA want to kill homosexuals? It's their religion. Women being opressed for a stupidly long time? Religion.
