According to the report some archiologists found John's cave. They cant be sure, but I think it IS his cave.

What do you think?

I think it might have been used later, but I don't think John the Baptist carved pictures about himself in the wall. That sounds like something that would come later.

Way too sketchy at this point. Just because baptismals took place here doesn't mean that John was the one doing it. The only indications so far are drawings which Byzantine monks did later and based on "local folklore". Calling this anything other than an interesting archeological find at this point is jumping the shark.

Link is above. I just added it.

John the Baptist was Jesus' distant relative who babtized him (Jesus) in the river. There a dove flew above Jesus and God said out of the sky "This is my son. He is holy". Or something like that.

John lived in the wild in a cave, and babtized other people, spread the word of God, and lived on plants.

So far it seems sound enough. I like how they keep mentioning that even the discoverer is only providing a plausible explanation and not irrefutable proof. From a historical viewpoint, there's not much to dispute that it could be the cave he used. Or at least someone with the same beliefs used.

the entire middle east is covered in sites that local tradition claims to be associated with some old religious figure. just like the entire contitnent of europe is flooded with "remnants of the true cross" and other alleged religious relics. in this case they have a cave that was used for religious rituals starting between 500 and 800 years before john the baptist lived that had pictures in it drawn at least several hundred years after he died. an interesting find, but nothing unique.

Sure thats John's cave. By the way would anyone be interested in buying a peice Jesus's cross? What about Noah's Ark? I've had them lying around, and I'm about to have a yard sale.

A guy who is referred to in the bible and who has an entire chapter devoted to him in Josephus' Antiquities, vs the 1 sentence for jesus.

I think he's Barbara Streissand's tour manager.
