Olympic Medals

Which nation do you think will bring home the most medals in the 28th Olympic Games in Athens, Greece this year? As much as I would like to see the US bring home the most, they are 3rd in the medal race. Austrailia is ahead of the US, and then China is ahead of the Aussies.

As much as I would like to see the US bring home the most, I believe that China is going to continue to rake in the medals and bring the most home.

China's only ahead at present cause all the sports they're good in are early. Likewise with OZ - once the swimming ends there's not much more they good at (aside from the hockey, poss some cycling and I think one of the rowing events).
All the sports US is strong in come later (track and field predomnantly).
That said, with the US finally testing their athletes for drugs, it could be wide open in the t & f events this year.

Really? Unless CNN is slow, the US is currently in first place with 19 medals. China following with 18. and Australia trailing with 14.

im not much concerned about country totals. to me they are pretty irrelevant
i just love the look of triumph on the winners faces. they have worked their whole lives to get to the olympics and to win a gold medal

it was so exciting when the japanese team won the mens team gymnastic gold medal last night. they really deserved it.

oh, and I'm guessing either the US, China, and Australia will bring home the most. My first impression of them is a pretty good one. Although I'll be cheering the US all the way.

I was talking about the total of yesterday morning. But thanks for the current medal numbers.

Personally, I like it more seeing athletes from small countries win who are part-time cause they get no funding to train and have to work to support themselves. Also the ones who have had to overcome all sorts of obstacles and lack of training facilities. This is truer to the Olympic ideal IMHO.
Whuch us why I always support any other team other than US, Oz and China, since they just throw money at their athletes and allow them to train 24/7 with the latest advances in training/nutrition etc.

Not true. I saw one of those short documentary things on NBC for this one Hispanic (me thinks) woman in the US gymnastics team. She makes pizza for a living, and she claims that her house is pretty much ****.

Of course, this is just one example. But I'm sure it's not the only.

I saw that too.

You guys wanna know somthing really funny? I just realised that Lebron James is playing basketball for the US olympic team in Athens...He is a local favorite being that he is from the town I live in and attended the same high school I currently do. It's ironic.

Canada baby! <_< >_>

Seriously, probably the US. They have the best funded, most well trained athletes. They also have the best steroids on the market :p

It's hilarious how far some people take their blind hatred of the U.S. Anything to spite America. It is hypocritical to say how hard athletes from other countries work to realize their Olympic dream, but the U.S. athletes only succeed because they're doped.

USA, all the way! Go Team USA!

We will win the medal count in Athens, just like we won it in Atlanta and Sydney. Get used to it, haters; America rules!

Try China, Lame Brain.

Yeah, the Chinese have been known to dope like mad; we've had a few problems this year with two (correct me if I'm wrong) track athletes...but so have the Greeks apparently (however the Greeks were very impressive in winning the men's synch. diving gold...go them)

I think we'll pull ahead this year once again with the medal haul, but the Aussies will put up a great count. I dislike China and its policies, and would rather not see them at #2. Russia will also likely be well up there.

One last thing...

GO IRAQI SOCCER (Football) TEAM!

Like usual, America will probably bring home the most medals.

If they don't, like everyone else in this board has suggested, it'll either be China or Australia.

Well, most comprehensive site I've seen for keeping track is here:

Anyway, I'm guessing the US on total medals, but China may end up with more golds.
