You sir are a sick man, but this isn't about you this about debate's having a reason:
Sometimes it can change a person to have a debate, sometimes you can get the opposing side to agree with some small part of reason. Even if he won't go totally with you he will learn or relearn some important facet or fact.
So, while limited the usage and effect can be expotential.

And what FACTS are ever debated in a political debate? It's all opinion, from what I've seen, and others' opinions are none of anyone else's buissiness, of course that's just an opinion too.
What exactly IS Zionism anyway? I learned it was the practice of returning to one's homeland, not having anything to do with masturbation OR porn.
But I could be wrong.

No political debate is pointless. Everyone walks away with the sense of something - good or bad - they walk away with something.

I think this thread will soon turn into a debate over whether debates are good or not...
I like to listen to or read these debates, mostly because I like watching them turn into shouting matches. Either that or someone goes into the debate and hurls polls and statistics at everyone like a monkey with diarrhea hurls its feces. Then everyone starts throwing whatever statistics(feces) they have at each other until the zookeeper comes to clean it up.

Here is the main point of any and every debate: the undecideds, the unsures, and the moderates.
Typically (I'm usually an exception), only the extremists will debate and there is pretty much nothing that will change their mind. Their goal shouldn't be to convince their opponent (because their opponent is the same as them). Their goal should be to keep their side of the argument up strong and to convince the people outside of the debate who may happen to read it. This is why resorting to flames, insults, cheapshots, etcetera, typically don't do a good job of winning an argument (even if your opponent leaves).

Isn't life pointless? What kind of difference are you going to make when you're one out of 6.3 billion people in this world? Hmmm?? Why not just lay down and forget about life?

Well, sometimes it can make a difference. For instance, the author of this blog (http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=comfog) (also a Nationstater, I believe) appears to have decided to stop blogging because he's tired of hearing people object to his views (such as "Rape is A-OK"). So in this case, it made some kind of a difference.
In any event, if your logic is good, people are often more swayed by what you say than they let on. You could be changing someone's life on here and not even know it. Heck, one of my friends made someone cry on here today, and the time she got a Christian to have a breakdown and renounce his religion is legendary (well, legendary only to me, anyway).

I read that blog and don't believe it ever said "Rape is A-Ok"...just wanted to set the facts straight...and if you reread what he has put up there...he says that he is tired of people criticizing him of not looking at both sides of the issue. He feels that he is looking at both sides and the people who criticize him aren't doing this. That an extremely different from just not wanting to hear opposing ideas. If people were criticizing me based off things I wasn't saying (like I saw someone do to this guy), I'd want to quit leaving my blog open for people to post baseless, degrading remarks as well...

this is true - nothing will change their minds. At least not in the short run. People will fight tooth and nail to not be wrong in an argument. But what you can do is plant the seed of doubt in their minds - the idea that something else out there is valid and is worth considering. So although they won't be coverted overnight, the ill-informed (read: commies) may see the light in time.

An internet debate about how much internet debates are pointless.
Hmm.
Seems logical to me.
Well, maybe only as logical as a boxing fight to fundraise for physically abused children.
whats the diff between a debate on the internet and a debate anywhere else?
