Purported by founding fathers like Jefferson, this philosophy desires a small central government and states' rights, like to take individual actions on many issues (like gay marriage), and that the Federal govt intervene ONLY IF NECESSARY!!

I strongly believe in states' rights. Unfortunately, a lot of people idiotically assume I'm a "racist" because of that.
I believe in individual freedom, not the rights of abstract coersive bodies.

I believe in state's rights on those issues not assigned to the federal government by the US Constitution, as long as the states don't try to do anything that conflicts with the Constitution (like banning gay marriage). After all, the US Constitution is the supreme law of the land and it specifically says that, regardless of state issues, no law in the country can conflict with it. =)

Article 1, Sec. 8 appoints Congress the power to "make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for executing all powers... vested by this constitution...into offices thereof." Because of this, I support states rights so long as they don't interfere with the federal government. If we made state's rights a far wider scope, we'd have fifty different nations in the US.

People have no rights except as established by law. If the rule of law applies equally to individuals as it does to States then States do in fact have rights.

This quote pretty much sums up my position on the matter. I would like to note that Thomas Jefferson acknowledges the presence of a Creator and only through him are we endowed with unalienable rights. That is why I am a conservative, some people would like to think that the government is the end all be all, that the government is only so nice enough to allow us to have this freedom. Wrong, God gave us the freedom we enjoy and no government can take that away. Government only derives its power from the consent of the governed. The problem is that we have all forgotten our history and become complacent with the government getting just a little bit bigger here and a little bit bigger there until the government controls everything. The states are meant to act as a check on the Federal government but they have all been bribed into submission by all the money that is handed out.
I realize that this is just a really long rambling post and probably incoherent but just deal with it. I'm tired.

Not god, a creator. Learn the difference, Jefferson was a Deist and didn't believe in your christian god...

Even though he may not have thought of it as the Christian God, he is still acknowledging a higher power, something higher than us that created us and gave us what we have.
