Puerto Rico (the dream team) humiliates the US

Great to see a non top 10 basket nation win from the overated millionairs :p
Guess that the US basketball team will have difficulties, it loses from th edream team and more powerfull nations then Puerto Rico still have to come.

Also consider the amount of citizens in both nations. US suporters forget often that if Luxemburg has one (1) medal, it already does better then the US with it's 180 million citizens. So what to think about the great Aussie swimmers (only 20 million) that bash the overrated (by the press, the guy himself is much more humble) Phelps. Or other nations like France or the UK that proof allways to have a better medal/pro capita record (most EU nations do).

Annyway the US basketball team was not a dreamteam for me this evening, they disapointed me with this result.

The USA has over 294 million citizens. :p

The US should've won! It had Carmello Anthony, the best basketball player currently playing!

Because the NBA has become the crappiest sports league in the world. That is how Puerto Rico beat us. It has become the all offense league. I think the only time that they play defense in the NBA is during the playoffs and then its only a little bit. The NBA has also become the "its all about me and my big contract league". I can't stand it. That is why I would rather watch college basketball, even division 2 college ball because they play with more heart than any NBA team. I have to say though that college ball is slowly being corrupted by money, that and they can't keep the good players like college football teams can.

Actually, Carmello Anthony was on the team and, if you recall, he played for SU.

The same thing happened I believe it was in 1998. Canada sent the best hockey team to ever hit the games in history. We also coined them "The Dream Team" they lost. Most speculate because we thought we couldn't lose. Thus became over confident and lost. This could also be the case with the American basketball team. They were probably over confident that they couldn't lose. They will probably come back. It was probably over confidence I think.

The problem with the baseketball team is that they have no outside shooting. I think they were around 30%. You can't win if you don't make those shots. Sure a strong inside game is good, but when the competition is better at outside shooting, you'll lose.

Way to politicize the Games, Basil. You make me sick.

The U.S. played like crap, but in their defense, basketball is a TEAM sport, and they didn't play as a team. However, they've only had a couple months to put the team together, whereas some other teams have played together for quite some time. Not an excuse, though, they deserved to lose.

First of all, basketball is a team sport. A near random sample of spoiled professional brats does not a winning team make. And that, in a nutshel is why American professional basketball has as many problems as it has, and why the last set of playoffs resulted in the best team, as opposed to the most expensive collection of offensive brats winning.

So may the best "team" win. And as an American I can only hope it's not ours.

Considering that Puerto Ricans are US citizens, I don't think it's such a big deal. When Puerto Rico wins, the US wins.

Incidentally, PR is a beautiful place. I would love to live there.

"Puerto Ricans consider themselves American but are fiercely proud of their island and their culture. They don't usually call themselves Americans or "Americanos", but "Puertorriqueños" or "Boricuas". To most Puerto Ricans, "my country" means "Puerto Rico", not the United States.

Criollo (creole) is a word used today by Puerto Ricans to describe things native to the island, such as: music, cuisine, language, arts, people, religion, and other aspects of the island culture.

It is known that Puerto Rican descendants call themselves Puerto Ricans. "I am Puerto Rican, but I wasn't born there." "

Granted .... Texans do the same thing ... we don't call ourselves "Americans", we call ourselves "Texan" ... that, however, doesn't change the fact that we're US citizens.

The thing i like the most about this is in 60 years, old Puerto Rican men will be talking about "that one time we beat the americans"

But their kids won't listen because they'll be racing their rocket scooters and doing space drugs.

Many consider themselves american... Not all. I don't, for one. My nation and country are Puerto Rico. I'm just a citizen of the USA because of some historical mistakes.

True.

It is known that Puerto Rican descendants call themselves Puerto Ricans. "I am Puerto Rican, but I wasn't born there."

Also true.

When Puerto Rico wins, the US wins.

Think whatever you will, but when we win, you don't win jack. Same the other way around. Btw, Carmelo Anthony must be wanting to die for playing for the wrong team. Because of his 'Ponceño' dad, he could have played for Puerto Rico.

El deporte siempre da revancha, ya era hora de humillar a los yanquis.
