It was because the US players were weighed down by their jewelry and egos.

This is good; maybe they'll see how bad they've made the NBA.

I don't hold it against Tim Duncan and Allen Iverson who represent their country. I think the real players who deserve to be blamed are the ones who just didn't bother to join the team, like Shaq, Garnett, Kidd, Hamilton, etc...

Commonwealth of the USA.

PR winning is actually just a Group of USA beating another Group of USA cause really, those from PR are US Citizans so are ;) representing USA....

Their Not really a Nation but a part of USA itself... a Territory/commonwealth
unless they vote for Independence.

Until Then They Like US Virgin Islands are US Territory.

Id like to point out that unlike the Hockey team(at Nagano)...The Basketball team showed a lot of Class at the end of the Historical Loss.

Congrats to all Latinos and PuertoRicans...Your team played well.

Autonomous? Let's face it, at its current position, the living standards of Puerto Ricans would decline if they were independent. For one, they wouldn't have the acsess to our defenses or law enforcement, meaning that drug dealers could take over, and a bit of anarchy could reign. If you ask me, they should become a state.

LOL your kidding right? There has only been one criminal in the History if Puerto Rico Which our law enforcment coudn't capture "el Negro andrades" And the reason they don't vote for independence is because a lot of people are really retarded and think that a the nation will revert, I'm not talking about economically i'm mean literally revert back to carriges and stuff like that. those are the kind of people that vote for P.R. to become a state.

Cubans, Haitains, and Puerto Ricans race for Florida!

After the U.S. government officially ejected Florida from the Union of the United States, millions of escaping Cubans, Haitans, and Puetro Ricans built rafts, hung onto garbage boats, or swam across the body of water seperating them from Florida in order to claim the new land that's up-for-grabs.

LOL! I just realized, btw, that Puerto Rico beat our dream team in Athens. That gold was reserved for either the US or Chinese. How did these guys win?:(

Great to see a non top 10 basket nation win from the overated millionairs
Guess that the US basketball team will have difficulties, it loses from th edream team and more powerfull nations then Puerto Rico still have to come.

Also consider the amount of citizens in both nations. US suporters forget often that if Luxemburg has one (1) medal, it already does better then the US with it's 180 million citizens. So what to think about the great Aussie swimmers (only 20 million) that bash the overrated (by the press, the guy himself is much more humble) Phelps. Or other nations like France or the UK that proof allways to have a better medal/pro capita record (most EU nations do).

Annyway the US basketball team was not a dreamteam for me this evening, they disapointed me with this result.

oh my god it would be SO cool to be in san juan tonight

what a great feat for them! i hope they keep going right to the medal stand!

there has never really been a fair vote in PR on statehood/independence/statusquo. i guess "they" dont dare to let the people decide on an honest basis voting in what they consider to be their own best interest

i wonder what the outcome would be.

Because the NBA has become the crappiest sports league in the world. That is how Puerto Rico beat us. It has become the all offense league. I think the only time that they play defense in the NBA is during the playoffs and then its only a little bit. The NBA has also become the "its all about me and my big contract league". I can't stand it. That is why I would rather watch college basketball, even division 2 college ball because they play with more heart than any NBA team. I have to say though that college ball is slowly being corrupted by money, that and they can't keep the good players like college football teams can.

What did you expect with a team of scum like Allen Iverson? The NBA sucks because no one can shoot the jumpers, they all have to be 2 feet away from the basket to make it. In the Olympics we face teams that can actually shoot 3 point bombs.

Where is Steve Kerr, MJ, Pippen, and Barkley when you need them?

Exactly, Iverson and Duncan are basicly alone out there with a bunch of kids. The reasons for the horrible team the US has this year are in this list:
Shaquille O'Neal
Jason Kidd
Kevin Garnett
Vince Carter
Jermaine O'Neal

and many more. All of those guys declined invitations to represtent their country in the Olympics. Because of that, the US basketball team will probably not win a medal this year.

Indeed. I'm very frustrated with this... I know I know, there's nothing like winning an NBA championship blah blah blah... but I guess if it were me, there'd be nothing like representing my country. This is why professionals should be banned from the olympics = they have no heart.

To be fair, Garnett was getting married... so I think that's a legitimate reason. :P

in the most recent one i thought it was more like 3%. independence definitely beat out remaining a commonwealth or entering into a pact of free association. statehood got something like 46%. however, none of the above got 50%. take that as you will.
