Why does Doom 3 run fine on 'high level settings' on my computer (P4 3ghz, radeon 9800pro 256megs, 1gb ram). But Deus Ex 2 lags like shit?

Simple answer, because the people at ID checked Doom 3 for compatability with every graphics card out there and Edios didn't. It's doubtless the graphics card, nVidia cards have many problems (frequently just not working) while the ATI cards are touch and go for how well they work. make sure you've got DirectX 9.0 or higher and all the Deau Ex patches, the graphic card versitility has been improving (any say now I'll be able to run it). Most likely the vertex shading is configured ineffecently and hogging all the GPU.

No, I didn't think he meant the USA. I don't know for sure what the first country to have astrology was: I would suspect Egypt or Sumeria/Mesopotamia, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Ancient Greece.

An argument could be made to interprete what he said as describing the USA: it would just be a matter of reading 'first' not in the sense of 'earliest in history', but in the sense of 'most prominent' - I think we can safely say that the US declares itself to be the first (ie. best) nation of democracy, they certainly have some universities which are without parallel in their specialised fields elsewhere within the world, I could believe that astrology is certainly much more widely believed in there than in other countries, philosophy presents something of a sticking point here - unless we define it as political philosophy - if we were to take Fukiyama as an example here we see that the US is not afraid to put the ideas of its political philosophers into action, not only inside its own borders, but also beyond them...

... however to do so would represent a mis-statement of NWV's intent, I believe.

Atomic theory of the Universe?

Discovery that planets reflect sunlight, and thats why we can see them?

Study of the rotation of planets?

Mapping of Planets Surfaces?

Ancient Greece was far more successful in the study of planets than some undemocratic people who built a few large buildings and thus 'civlisation' in Mesopotamia.

You cannot 'invent' astrology, but the Greeks were the first real understanders about planets and space. Stop trying to criticise and be so anti-greek all the time.

Atomic theory of the Universe?

Nothing to do with astrology, and vastly different from the atomic theory that we currently hold: for example Democritus believed that some atoms could be as large as a cow or a horse. The only real similarity between the atomic theory of the Ancient Greeks and that which we use today is that large things are constituted out of smaller things, and the actual definition of those small things breaks down horribly when you start looking at them closely.

And what makes me a bigot? I was stating a fact that most British and Americans are anti-Greek. They refuse to acknowledge what Ancient Greece did for the World and always try to undermine our achievements. They support Turkey, a nation with an appalling human rights record.

On the basis of what you had said (and appeared to mean) I called you a bigot. You then retracted that statement, and so I retract my calling you a bigot. Consider it retracted.

However, I still think youa re confusing official governmental stance with what the actual people think or feel: I would wager that most do not know that any issue exists concerning Cyprus.

But with people like you it leads me to believe that all Americans are the same - You truly are a Republican Scumbag.

republican with a small 'r' - I believe the monarchy should be abolished, but I am not a Northern Irieland Republican with a capital 'R', as that implies certain sympathies with Eire that I do not hold (although I hold many other sympathies for the Free State).

I've met homophobes, sexists, assholes in general, and people who are raciest against blacks, latinos, asians, and white people.

But I can't say I've ever met someone who's anti-Greek.

Out of curiosity...where the hell did THAT stereotype come from? If you're going to use them, at least use ones that are well known and funny. Like, say all americans are lazy, or that we're rednecks, or something like that.

British political spectrum is further to the left, and I was talking about US Republicans - They still have debates in the Republican party about whether or not the flag should be allowed to be burned, thats how incredibly right wing they are. Whereas in Britain there are good Conservatives, like Ken Clarke.

Not quite that bad, but it was designed for the X-box (originally) to be improved later. There are good finacial reasons to design a game for the X-box and later improve the functionality for other systems (hint, what company makes the X-box and is sitting on more cash than G*d).
