Seeing the post about God's...anatomy and all the people who were horrified by it and wanted it to be closed...It's a pretty normal response among fairly religious people (or even atheists, for that matter, but that's a different matter), same response that prompted bookburnings and so on. Basically, a closeminded attitude.

Thing is, ALL religions are closeminded, and about the same things. They all want basically the same things: Respect for a certain decency, a God (or two or three, but that's essentially irrelevant) and their religious text. So: anybody have any real reasons that religions are different? that there's more than one? That the different ones are constantly arguing?

As to why there's more than one? Geographical separation. Why do they remain separate and even bash each other? Here:

Each one encourages you to think you belong to an elite clique, so advertisers can appeal to your ego and get you to cultivate an image that sets you apart from the crowd. It's the divide and conquer trick.

Calvin was referring to different gum magazines, but the same principle applies. It's the little tiny details that create those huge chasms.

Eh, I think it's more that some people just have Issues. I have met people who are fairly religious, and yet ALSO have a liberal and relaxed attitude towards sexuality.

Hmn... No.

Buddhism: it has no God. A recommended eight-fold path to leading a good life (no prayer, just being a good human), no religious text....

That's why Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion.

Although I think there's a sect of Buddhism that has deified Buddha...

Small differences.

Such as we Muslims think that God is one, supreme God. That he has no sons or mothers or whatever.

Christians believe Jesus is a son of God, if I'm correct.

And the geographic differences, etc. etc.
