1. The German team marched in Brown uniforms. WTF? Remember the last time that happened?
2. All but 2 of the Greek baseball team players are American.
3. The Israeli team did not get any applause. Made me sick.
4. The Olympic torch was a huge bong. Did you see its shape? It was a joint!
5. Who wants to hear Bjork lip-sync a gay-ass song at the Olympics anyway?
6. The US team was wearing Berets. WTF? A Beret?
7. Did you see Allen Iverson? He was representin'! I was surprised he even showed up at all.

Should not the question be, who wants to here Bjork?

6. The US team was wearing Berets. WTF? A Beret?

Says enough about Israel, not about the rest of the world. how do you wan't a neutral crowd applausing a country that is seen by it as a modern version of fascism and Nazism

I would not applause neither boo them but I would applause most of the others. (not Russia, the US, Soedan and Birma, Saudi Arabia and some other democracy problems)

That is the problem, Israel is not Fascist or Nazi, they have no fault except for being Jewish, and the world hates them for that. I hate that.

1.)So... Wow! Brown uniforms just like several other nations were wearing who must also be apart of Susa's half-baked conspiracy.

2.)So several of the other nations such as China had members who were born in America or who played for America. And on the American team were many people from other nations. That's why we had over 500 athletes.

3.) They didn't deserve any...They have a bad president just like America and they need to get rid of him. When they do that then they can have applause.

4.)Man grow up... Really that kind of humor died in the sixth grade.

5.)If you didn't realize this Athen is in Europe. Europeans like Euro pop. Bjork's music is in that genre. Therefore her song is valid. Besides I like Bjork.

6.)It wasn't exactly a beret and who cares if they were.

7.)Of course AI was there he deserves to be and I'm glad he was there.

Actually I think I the "we have nuclear weapons and we keep telling everyone around us to obey or we will blow you up, and, oh, by the way, I will kill people just because they come from a different country or religion" stuff made me hate they more then the fact that they are jewish...

Oh, btw, did you saw americans getting booed while Iraqis were warmly applaused? Oh man! I mean, booing someone is not exactly the same as killing their parents because they live close to rich resources; but hey; it's a start. I bet Iraqis who had their family brutally murdered for no good reason but greed felt a little happier. :)

Oh, btw, sorry for the bad english... I'm still learning...

You know, you could always focus on the positive aspects of the ceremony. There was thunderous applause for teams like those from Cyprus, Turkey (it's Greek geopolitics), Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, and the joint Korean team.

One thing a lot of people from certain places don't quite understand that a lot of people around the world harbor a certain...disrespect for Israel. Personally, I do agree that Israel has a right to defend itself from the brutal, sadistic attacks of extremeist Palestinians. However, I disagree with some of the tactics that the Israeli forces are using.

Though, in an ideal world, Seosavists would be right -- the Olympics are supposed to be only about spoprts and not politics. In fact, I believe Israel called an Olympic truce, if only to get the torch through the Palestinian areas.

Oh, and the German uniforms seemed distinctly more tan or beige......just like the Greek uniforms. Though I really liked some of the countries that sent representatives in traditional dress, such as Mongolia and Turkmenistan.

This is no more valid than those who claim that opposition to US policy is inherently anti-american.

Or perhaps you also seem to feel that the Jewish groups that are anti-zionist do so out of a hatred for themselves?

http://www.nkusa.org/

It is an easy thing to accuse anti-semitism, and I'm not stating that there are no anti-semites around, but to accuse all those who disagree with Israeli policy as being anti-semitic is BS.

That being said, the fact that the Israeli atheletes were not afforded the same respect as everyone else was a very poor showing by the crowd. I will agree with you on that.

They aren't exactly Berets. They are a newsboy hat. Berets are like what they wore in the Army in WWII and what French people wear.

But their cool anyways, personally I prefer the Canadian team's version that they had about two olympics ago. They were red and the origional verison.
The American team had that type of hat last Olypmics as well. So I wonder why they would do the same parade outfit or similar as previous?

I respect you, I respect your opinions, but let me tell you why you are wrong. When the US team marched in, there was tremendous applause. When some of the noise had died down, the announcers said something along the lines of "Greeks draw a clear line between US citizens and the US government, so that is why they are cheering". This is true. Most Greeks do not support the US government, just the same as most Greeks do not support the Israeli government. So why did they cheer the US team tremendously and not the Israeli team? Because they are anti-semites.

I cant believe I am hearing this! You are a complete moron with no brain - as usual the Americans put anti-israel down to anti-semitism. As Chomsky says, "What my family considered Zionism (A Jewish ethnic homeland but not A Jewish state) would be considered anti-zionist and anti-semitic these days."

Well, that is your opinion obviously, however I think that it is just to pat to call an entire crowd anti-semitic. It could also relate to the fact that the Israeli people are not seen as seperate from their government in quite the same way as the US on many problematic issues. There seems to be a clear attachment of current policy to the current administration in the US. In Israel, the policy of occupation has transcended 35 years of different administrations. One can also draw the distinction between Jews and Zionists, and Israel is popularly seen as the zonist wing of judaism.

In Israel, as well, many of the problems are NOT viewed as entirely being a governmental issue. Case in point, it is Israeli civillians who have created the illegal settlements that have caused so many problems. The fact that the government lets them get away with it does not excuse the civillian complicity.

However - not being a Greek in attendance, I'm not going to state a categoric reason why so many of them did not clap. I'm no more qualified to than you.

Then why don't you answer his point instead of just flaming him? Its clear that the vast majority of people in the world don't support the US Government or its policies, yet it received applause. The same is supposedly true with Israel - that its just beef against the government - yet they received nowhere close to the reception the Americans received.

...Or, because the situation in Iraq is more of a hot button with people and there is more sensitivity around it, so people who wish to adopt a "let's set aside our differences for the sake of the Games" attitude would be more likely to think about the Iraq/US conflict than any other.

Not that the Israeli/Palestinian issue is any less of a "situation," it's just not "Front Page News" as often these days.

The audience also cheered the Turkish team -- but that was because of their local conflict in Cyprus being at the forefront of the audience's minds.
