Since I know you all love me, I know you'll all help me out with this. I'm getting a new computer. What kind should I get? I don't feel like ordering parts and assembling it myself, and I estimate I have around $2000 to spend. What company should I buy my computer from?

Apple. PowerMac G5 :)
I just had to get a new goddamn motherboard, and I lost all my music and files and whatnot, so I'd recomend not getting one like mine.

Screw companies. Buy components and put them together yourself. You'll get a better system, more customized for what you want and have more money to spend on a better monitor.
Personally I'd go with the ALTAIR 8800

I know I should do it myself, but I don't want to.

he wants a computer, not a practically worthless expensive piece of electronics
for $2000? build it yourself, it would be 10x better than anything you can buy for half the price, but go check out alienware if you msut buy preassembled

I checked out Alienware, but even if I lowballed their systems, I still wind out over $2000.

then build it yourself or you are destined to a cheaper computer you would have to upgrade soon enough anyway

HP's quite nice- I just got a notebook from them, for just under $2000. go with their business stuff, even if it's just for personal use.
nx7010
specs:
1.7ghz Pentium M (Dothan 735)
512mb sdram, 1 card slot still free
15.4" widescreen WSXGA+
cd-rw/dvd player
sd card slot built-in
firewire
3 USB 2.0 ports
64mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
60gig 5400rpm HD
intel 2200 wireless (b/g standard)
it gets several hours on batteries (at least 3, up to 5 with internet off).. pretty amazing notebook, really.
so just imagine what that $2000 can buy you if you go with a desktop.
Hmm... 2000 dollars you say.
Either build your own kick ass computer for about 1000 to 1500 with all the best stuff. You know a 256mb graphics card. Like 3 gig of ram hey I want three gig of ram *runs out buys 2 more gigs puts it in and sighs*
Or buy an Alienware Aurora Performance computer.
