Furries? You mean those guys who dress up in animal costumes to have sex? That's so wrong on so many different levels...

Not a furry, myself, but have plenty of furry friends. Some of the art is phenominal - though I'm not into the yiffy stuff.

As for all ya'll balking and flaming, lemme guess ... you never watch Bugs Bunny ...

It's a fandom, not a perversion. (Though, like in any segment of society, it has its perverts.)

Yeesh.

well you guys are being a bit harsh
not all furries are the same.
its fun to focus on the "strangest" ones but not everyone dresses up in cheap animal costumes to have ritualized sex with strangers (not that i dont know a few of those)

furries are people who are attracted to animal archetypes. they are no too terribly different from those star trek fans who dress up like klingons to go to conventions.

for most people its just good clean fun of an animal spirit kinda thing

Incidentally, in my tribe, it is customary at festivals to paint your face to symbolize your animal spirit and wear symbolic objects such as feathers, bone, skins, teeth ...

Wanna tell me how perverse it is to pay homage to one's totem in dress?

*mutters about threads being purged*

Yes, there are furries on NationStates. I'm not qualified to give that much information about furryism in general, but I can direct you to the inhabitants of this region (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_region/region=furnation), as well as #furry on EsperNet (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=278619).

In the spirit of objectivity, I would recommend that people click here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom) for information on furryism.

I have some friends who are furries, it doesn't mean the fandom is any more attractive to me.

I be a furry, myself. Well, feathery, technically.. Red-Tailed Hawk here. ^v^

IRT All the people bitching about how they hate furries: Then why are you in the thread? Get out and we'll both be a lot happier.

Also, on a sidenote, Something Awful is pathetic. If you want to see how much they lie, just read their Doom 3 review.. Yes, it's in jest, as we can plainly see. But so is much of what they say about furries. Remember that house hippo commercial? Ya, think about what you're looking at for 5 seconds and the world will be better for it.

Or you could just throw yourself in front of a train. Either way is good.

Well... it's not... unless it's also customary to have kinky anonymous sex while dressed up as animals.

I don't get the furry thing. Best explanations my mind can come up with are along the lines of displaced bestiality desires.

Or perhaps there are people that are appaled by sharing a species with the likes of you and "Alex the broadband"?

If you want to discuss the sexual side of the fandom (There is more to it, but it may be too complex for you), fine. It's hard to explain.. Different people desire different things on other people. Nice face, kind personality, good sense of humor, gigantic rack.. So what if we like some attributes of our favorite animal on an ideal mate as well? Such as claws, or fur, or feathers?

Of course that's not going to happen, but it's nice to dream.

Or perhaps it's just a psychological thing? Who knows?

For that matter, Who cares?

I am a Scaly, or more half Scaly... half human and half ice-dragon. Don't listen to those that think we are all alike. Furries (and all the other branches of it) are different than Fursuiters. Fursuiters don't actually want to become another creature while a Furry longs to be the creature they play.

I'm not a furry, in that I don't have an animal hybrid persona. I do collect some furry art, and find the concept of a human/animal hybrid intriguing. I don't have any problems with furries, sexual or not. I don't really see it as my place to tell people what they can and can't do in their bedrooms.

That tends to happen when you relate with something that humans routinely kill for entertainment.

Funnily enough, they think they're relating to something that humans routinely kill for entertainment, but actually they're just relating to humans, by anthropomorphising, either in physiology or mentality, the thing that they're trying to relate with. So I suppose it's sort of an incompetant misanthropy.

Official NS Mod Statement:

That's just about enough flaming in this thread. If you don't like Furries, go read another thread.

Before you post, blasting some subculture, just as yourself what the responce would be if you replaced that subculture with, say, "blacks", or "chinese", or "homosexuals", or any other group.

The popularity, commonality, or frequency of a group does not authorize blanket statements of hostility or mockery. Again, if you're just coming in here to flame, don't. Just like every other thread.

I can only speak for myself, but I only anthropomorphize because IRC wouldn't be as fun if I wasn't sentient and/or couldn't open doors. Aside, typically, when furries anthropomorphize, their characters tend to have a deeper respect for nature and life.. Typically.

Hentai Catgirls mmmmmmmmmmm :D

Yes.... catgirls... where would the quality hentai be with out catgirls. I would like to say it was because of them I became interested in Furries, Featheries, and Scalies all due to a show called Thundercats when I was 5, before that I loved all creatures but that sealed it. I lost my mammal craze and now am totally into Dragon folk. I have been playing as a Draconian for over 6 years and soon hope to finish the novel about my character's journey.
