Some awesome political games I recommend, all available for download as abandonware from the same site:
Shadow President: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=963
You're the President of the USA, and you can play around with almost anything, including those shiny nukes. The only things I have against this game is that you can only be the USA, military action has way too many casualties sometimes, and way too few in others. (Lost 150,000 men invading Iraq and 15 invading Canada.) and its set slightly before Desert Storm, so the stats are way out of date. Still good though.
Liberal Crime Squad: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=4771
Man, this is funny. You're basically a terrorist trying to turn the USA uber-liberal. Only thing is, it doesn't really have graphics and is pretty much text only.
Crisis in the Kremlin: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=250
A bit like Shadow President (mainly focuses on domestic issues though, where SP is international) set in the USSR. Pretty good- if you're good enough you can keep the USSR going until 2025 while turning it into a democracy. I did it once, but a few republics broke away.
Hidden Agenda: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=506
You're a newly installed (via. coup, naturally) South American president. You can basically warp the country to whatever warped ideology you want, but only through issues...similar to NS in a way but more focused. And you've only got 3 years. Doing a good job is quite difficult. Crap graphics, but fun.
I've played others, but these were the best and I thought i'd share them incase people were interested :)
