Is that really the reason why he resigned? Because he had a homosexual affair?

I understand he was next to his wife when he made the announcement, must've been hard to hear.

I heard that he resigned not simply because he was having "an affair", but because he may be about to be charged with sexual harrassment by some complainant. I've no idea who that might be.

Hmm, he didn't resign for being gay, but for cheating on his wife.

No?

Sexual Harrassment charges are coming, but everyone's still unsure exactly where they're coming from. However, more to the point, it looks like there is some sort of financial scandal abrewin as well. Apparently, his advisors are falling one by one to charges of impropriaties with raising funds. So really, the gay thing is just a front story, without having to go into the implications of the harrassment suit and the fundraising concerns.

Then........why the affair business?

Easier explanation than, "I'm stepping down because I may or may not have embezzled thousands of dollars from my campaign fundraising or allowed others to."

I've also heard that the guy who's charging him with harrassment was promoted by the governor to head NJ's homeland security, a $100,000/year job. There's far more than him just having an affair. This one may cause as much scandal as Gary Condit, in fact.

So, is it the guy he was supposedly having an affair with who used to be his head of security and is like a published poet with no background in security at all or is it someone else?

I don't know exactly. But I think they were secretly dating beforehand.

It makes me really sad that he felt pressured to resign simply because of his sexuality. It also makes me sad that he appears to be ashamed of it. Homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed of.
I would hope that we lived in a country where people are open-minded and understanding... that obviously isn't the case.

It's a shame, and I hope that he has better luck elsewhere...

But it's not about him being gay, it's about him trying to short circuit a fundraising scandal. The gay thing is a dodge and he could even most likely weather the sexual harrassment suit. The fundraising issue, however, is much more tricky to get out of.

It's all about the bottom line.

OMG. Freaky.

I'm a Jersey resident. I would never expect the governor to step down because of his sexual preferences. But I guess he doesn't want this to turn into a Clinton like scandal.
