This just in folks!
The NJ governor has decided to resign due to an extramarital affair! The resignation takes effect on November 15! What makes this interesting and after listening to his speech, he admits that he is a gay american and that he had an extramarital affair with another guy.
More details as they become!
BREAKING NEWS New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey resigns his post, citing an extramarital homosexual affair. Details soon

The MSNBC Link actually gives abit more info than CNN and Fox News!
Apparently he is stepping down because of a harrassment lawsuit that is coming.

Its good that Jimmy McG resigned, even if he gave a lame reason.
Too bad. I'm a New Jersey resident, and I think he was a pretty good governor. He always did look a little fruity to me though.

You should note that McGreevey isn't resigning because he's gay--he's resigning because he expects to be hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit. His homosexuality has little to do with the issue at hand.

I say good on him for making a good choice (protect the office) after what appears to be a string of bad ones (staying in the closet, having an affair, allegations of corruption at fundraising events, etc.).

That's precisely why he's not resigning until November 15. After that date, the president of the State Senate will take over and complete the term and the election will happen next year like normal. It'll save the state the cost of putting together an election at such short notice.

I think his chief of security or something. Or was that who he was having an affair with? The article wasn't too clear other than he's expecting to be slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit soon and this is a preemptive strike to diffuse any possible governmental perturbations it might cause.

Dear Nazi Weaponized Virus:
In the real world, we don't care if we offend Muslims.
We don't care if the EU refuses to accept Turkey into it's little club.
We don't care if Israel throws up a concrete wall and bulldozes Muslim houses.
Why don't we care?
Because we don't have to. In America, when Arabs attack us, we blame Bush and think it all to be a grandiose conspiracy. We don't blame Arabs... because we don't care about Arabs.
We don't care if the majority of the Muslim population is between the ages 18-24. Why don't we care? Because the West's ability to make bullets and bombs outperforms the Arab female's ability to bear children.
Just keep sellin' the US oil. In the end, the civil strife caused from of your own Arab nationalism and greed will obliterate you and every single one like you. Fate has determined that the national heritage designed by Abu Bakr will be on land revered by those who seek to impliment the wonders of human ingenuity. Deal with it.

9. In the event of a vacancy in the office of Governor, a Governor shall be elected to fill the unexpired term at the general election next succeeding the vacancy, unless the vacancy shall occur within sixty days immediately preceeding a general election, in which case he shall be elected at the second succeeding general election; but no election to fill an unexpired term shall be held in any year in which a Governor is to be elected for a full term. A Governor elected for an unexpired term shall assume his office immediately upon his election.
In short, no.

You know, it's not just the gayness (about which I care approximately not at all, he could have come out and remained gov just fine). It's not just the hassle over the affair, though that's bound to be distracting; if his wife divorces him, as seems likely, the emotional wringer that would put him through could diminish his effectiveness, but Rudy Giuliani survived that and cancer while mayor of NYC. It's not even the sexual harassment suit, just ask Bill Clinton.
The man's advisors are dropping like flies in campaign financing scandals. That's the kicker. The investigation, mark my words, will get closer and closer to the top. Resigning was the only way to short-circuit that scandal in particular.

And as to the NJ Governor, his being cute has as much to do with his ability to govern as his being gay, absolutely nothing. Unfortunately since being gay and in positions of power is such a hot button topic to some people, I can forsee the issue being raised as homophobic bait.
He did the right thing to step down, as having to defend himself against a sexual harassment suit would detract from his duties as Governor. I think, tho, if he is vindicated in his suit, he should run again, if he has indeed been good for the NJ people.

Why do I now have an image in my head of Nancy Pelosi aggressively threatening people with her vagina?

Why do I now have an image in my head of Nancy Pelosi aggressively threatening people with her vagina?Don't know, but I imagine if she threatened you with her vagina, you'd be at least a little nervous. Can you imagine how some of the good old boy Representatives will shit themselves if the Democrats pull it off and win back the House and she's the Speaker? That'll be worth getting cable for--just for C-SPAN. :D

I've heard this. If it wasn't unconstitutional, I'd outlaw adultry for politicians. Too many have had scandals over this, and it is embarrassing to America.
I think some states still have laws against adultry and it's a criminal offence, although rarely (if ever) prosecuted.

Well then, I guess it isn't unconstitutional :). Still, some wacky laws are still on the books. For example, while in Arkansas, you can't pronounce the state name as ar-kan-sas.

FD, sorry to take your thread off track again, but you should be warned that there was a moderator ruling that publically calling for someone to be ignored could be considered flamebait.

Well I wasn't the only one that was doing it but I'll remember that for the future.
