Non-American-non-Europeans: let your voice be heard!

Hi all,

I keep hearing America this (generally meaning the USA, and not North America, the continent), Europe that...

...Asia, Oceania, Africa, and South America (yes, the other America), speak up! There are several billion of us, after all. ;)

I can't tell you how many times I have criticised Bush or US foriegn policy online only to have it automatically assumed that I am European...well actually I can - twice :p - but still, I'm sure you get my menaing.

I just want to hear how many other NS members are not from "the big two"...

Let me start - I am from Australia...you know, that country that most Americans know nothing about except Crocodile Dundee, "A dingo stole my baby!", kangaroos, koalas and *shudder* Steve Irwin...

I live in a suburban house, not in the outback. In fact, around 95% or more of Australia's population live in suburban areas. I work in the commercial sector in telecommunications, not shearing sheep or hunting crocodiles. I don't wear an acoubra hat with corks dangling from it, or khaki shorts.

In fact, here's a little tidbit - Max Barry, creator of Jennifer Government and Nation States - is Australian. I'm reasonably sure he doesn't ride to work in the pouch of a kangaroo or wrestle crocs for fun, either :)

...so, who's next?

I've always considered Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa as parts of Europe. Don't ask me why, it's just they were in the British Commonwealth, and they were Western Civilization style nations. Well NZ and AU are okay today, but SA is currently a mess. I've also considered large parts of South America as the West, because the West isn't a location, it's a mentality. Western Mentality has been carried wherever Western man has gone and planted his flag.

And Mars...Western Civilization has sent at least a Zillion dollar's worth of probes there...and what have we gotten back? A few fuzzy pictures...and a picture's only worth a thousand words...

So if one does the calculations, it comes out to about a billion dollars per word...WOW...

Depends... the Germans maybe didnt think that having atombombs would be useful since they are so blatantly antihuman and massdevastating that nobody in their right mind would use them anyway. Alas the Americans in their endless wisdom and experience, proved the world wrong and used them on civilians.

"Deutschland über Alles" is quite fitting, alas it does not mean the rule of Deutschland over every other nation in the world. It rather means the unification of Germany which was the dream of the German people (and of Fallersleben who wrote the Deutschlandlied) back in the 19th century, when Germany was not united but rather a bunch of kingdoms, provinces, states etc.

Using this phrase for America is maybe good, but it should be "United States of America über Alles" then, to properly display your imperialistic nature. If you didnt know yet, the U$ are the only (young) nation left over to go through their imperialistic phase. You too will learn that spreading too much will eventually cause problems which result in the collapse of the country.

I think there is a little misunderstanding here:

"Deutschland Uber Alles" was Germany's national anthem, which I believe was changed after WW2...

"California Uber Alles" is a Dead Kennedy's song which draws it's title from parodying Germany's national anthem, and applying it to a state of America.

All clear now? ;)

P.S. Of course the rest of North America counts for something - I have quite a lot of Canadian friends. But Canadian voices aren't quite as rare on these forums as some from other continents I listed.

Last time I checked, it is outlawed. As is flying any flag used by the German Government, Armed forces, etc, from 1914-1918, and 1933-1945.

America saved lives with the bomb. Ironic? Entirely. Killing the few so the many can live is a perfectly logical, amoral decision. The only real complaint I'd have was that the targets needn't have been quite so populous; merely the show of power should have been enough to force the Japanese military into surrender.

I feel sad for the world. So many hate the US "Imperialist state" for its wealth and power, either of spite for their own collapsed empire or envy of what they have never and will never have. The problem is that the US is so entrenched in world affairs that if it was to collapse, or even withdraw into a self-driven isolationist nation, it would cause havoc.

Well, lemme think about that one. After Rome's decline Europe fell apart, and then later they had that Dark Ages dealy. I suppose it helped them religiously, or something. Britain's former possessions in the Middle East and Africa sure are doing well. India's so sparsely populated and well fed, and South Africa's certainly not having any crime problems. I know how well democracy's doing in Hong Kong now that they're part of China.

Yep, the collapse of the world order never hurt anyone.

But the problem is that America didn't kill the few, they bombed some mondominous cities. They may have done it so more could live, but dag-nam. You know, it's not called terrorism when America does it. On the same level, I don't think it is called terrorism when any Country does it. Maybe it is. And when you say it is an amoral decision, I am fairly certain that means that there were no morals used.

I feel sad for the world too: so many people affected negatively by the USA. Yeah, there are people who will swear by how great it is, but they are like, usually American, so they are already set in their mindstate.

Countries and Nationalism are funny. Funny indeed. Calling your neighbours better than my neighbours? Nice. Ha ha ha, If you wish to study a granfaloon, just take the skin off a toy baloon! You haven't a choice in family or compatibility, just company. I'm going to sleep.

Sorry to say this, but you, like most Americans encountered anywhere on the planet, seem to have the annoying habit of force feeding the rest of the world your habits/politics/opinions whether we want them or not.

Without meaning to offend... the American culture is like a virus - coming in and devouring/destroying/taking over the existing culture of any other society. I can say this because I am Australian and we are in mortal danger of becoming one of your vassal states (much to our horror).
The Australia/US trade agreement on the table at the moment is evidence of this.

A thought or two on this subject matter:

The 'Non-American-Non-Europeans' are not replying to this post not because they're few in number - it's just that they probably have no access to this forum, because they don't have access to the 'Net, probably because they don't have access to a computer, which is a moot point when 2/3 of the world don't have access to reliable safe electricity! Or for that matter, more basic things like sufficient nutrition, basic security, and basic healthcare!

The 1/3 of the world's population we're a part of, we should be glad - no matter how bleak and nasty things look from your end, someone in Indonesia ,Somalia or Mongolia would probably give his/her mortal soul for a few months of our lifestyle.

Just a few thoughts. I'm not going to back up my figures, they're just rough estimates.

Right, except that "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" is verse 3 and not 2.
The anthem was chosen in 1922 as anthem of the Weimar Republic. Or three verses were equal. Between 1933-45 only the first one was used. In 1952 the Federal Republiv of Germany chose to declare it again to the national anthem however only to use verse 3. East Germany created a new anthem (Auferstanden aus Ruinen - Rebuild from ruins). In 1990 after the reunification it was declared as the anthem of the reunified country.

The U.S. is just the scape goat for places with real beauty, power, and wealth like Siberia, Sweeden, and Switzerland. Iron Man Rickenbacker US Ace of Aces in WW I, one time proprietor of the Indy 500, and Black Jack's chaufer even went back to Switzerland before he died. America is just a hell bent for leather frontier country that can kick arse on the rest of the world for the moment. Stand in the street at the turn of a joke and curse that black powder smoke ! DRAW !!!

Now Uncle Sam is just an old man in Iraq that no one believes
says he's a gunfighter, the last of the breed
and there are oil war ghosts in the street seeking revenge
calling him out to the gas pump and the lunatic fringe
now he's out in the superpower traffic checking the sun
and he's killed by an EU car as he goes for his gun...
