I'm a fan of Veruca Salt and Luscious Jackson. Don't know if I'd rank them among the best, but I like them.

My favourite band is The Gathering, an atmospheric rock/metal band with a female lead singer, Anneke van Geirsbergen.

My favourite solo artist is Björk who is female, of course.

I also like Aghora and Lacuna Coil.

I love chick rock.
I've love The Donnas and The Spazzys at the moment.
Some old faves are L7, The Breeders, Nitocris (Local), Magic Dirt, Fur, Veruca Salt, Hole, SPDFGH (Local),Babes in Toyland, PJ Harvey, Rebecca's Empire, Elastica, The Eurythmics (I had the biggest crush on Annie Lennox when I was a kid), Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, and (even though I am kind of ashamed to admit it) I used to like The Bangles until they released the soul destroying "Eternal Flame". I'm pretty sure that I've missed some, but my memory isn't what it used to be for various reasons. *snicker*
However, you can't go past Suzie Quatro and Patti Smith for all time greatest influences in my book.

Heart.

1000 Maniacs

Eurthymics.

Nena (99 Luftballons)

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got
Set them free at the break of dawn
'till one by one they were gone
Back at base, sparks in the software
Flash the message "something's out there"
Floating in the summer sky
Ninety nine red balloons go by

Ninety nine red balloons
Floating in the summer sky
Panic bells, it's red alert
There's something here from somewhere else
The war machine springs to life
Opens up one eager eye
And focusing it on the sky
The ninety nine red balloons go by

Ninety nine decisions treat
Ninety nine ministers meet
To worry, worry, super scurry
Call the troops out in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it boys, this is war
The President is on the line
As Ninety nine red balloons go by

Ninety nine knights of the air
Ride super high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a super hero
Everyone's a Captain Kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify and classify
Scramble in the summer sky
Ninety nine red balloons go by

As ninety nine red balloons go by

Ninety nine dreams I have had
In every one a red balloon
It's all over and I'm standing pretty
In this dust that was a city
If i could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here is a red balloon
I think of you and let it go

Remember, this is personal preference, not a "who are the best" (something that's almost impossible to define, unless you judge solely on album sales). ;)

To answer a few questions:

> Bikini Kill - not bad, but I haven't heard much of their stuff

> Tori Amos - oh yeah, big fan, I can't believe I forgot to put her in my initial list...

> Same with Veruca Salt, Breeders, Heart and Siouxsie...like em all, forgot to list them...

> Ani DiFranco - hmm, no, never really liked what I've heard

> Bjork - no, not my cup of tea either

Well, I have to admit, now that you've admitted to both knowing and liking Throwing Muses, Tanya Donnelly and Kirsten Hersch, I'm keeping my options open. :)
