Just as a question, are there any even remotly compotent theocratic proponents in the world?

any names or movements that seem very successful, beyond small 3rd party Christian Coalition parties or the like.

I mean serious theocracy

Serious? The Catholic Church is pretty serious.

I suppose you could call Japan a theocracy at one point, though the emperors were mostly either symbols, if not puppets, or strong rulers themselves.

Iran's pretty much a theocracy, and they've wielded pretty firm control over their country for about 25 years now. That sounds competent to me.

Theocracies are terrible. The only thing worse than a government based on technology would have to be one built on a fundamentalist religion.
