Seeing as how the Olympics are about to begin, and looking at how much of it will be televised here in the US, I have to ask. Why bother?
Have the Olympics outlived their usefullness?
IF there is a terrorist attack in Athens a'la Munich, will it finish the Olympics for good?

I hope so (not for a terror attack) but if their is one they should stop it.
What a waste of money are the Olympics. whit all that money, every Greek that does not could have a descent house or think about the jobs you can create if you invest it in the economy.
like allways, the budget was surpassed (even doubled) and like allways the Olympics are not the economic trigger for the region (Barcelona and area allready was a important economic region) and the money that goes back to the state, so the people (most important builder and investor) via VAT and other taxes will be overestimated.
To hell with the Olympics, every sport has it's worldchampionship, that should be enough. BTW, most of the runners are on dope, specially the US ones (Carl Lewis was too). The games are a nationalistic promotion in wich honnest sporters will never winn against doped ones.
Best thing: allow doping, it is their life and health. Would be nice to see the consequenses..

nope. the olympics have no purpose whatsoever.
but a terrorist attack on the olympics at anytime would not stop them continuing, as it's 'a worldwide, and incredibly historical and traditional world event.' Or supposedly.
The olympics are a waste too; people run around a track. Wow. The point of it is/was? Wait, there wasn't one.
The new Greek olympics stadium cost a massive £7 billion pounds according to the news last night. Just think of all the starving children in Congo and Ruwanda who could've been saved. Oh, and of course numerous other suffering countries.
And now, just for the heck of it:
PULL OUT OF IRAQ.
Off topic, but hey, who cares?

I'm a big sports fan, football (American style), baseball, NASCAR, golf, college basketball (can't stand the NBA), hockey. I love all those sports and I watch them when I can but when the Olympics come on, its channel surfing time. I mean, who remembers who the last person was to win the 200 meter butterfly race in the 2000 summer olympics? I sure don't but I will always remember Dale Earnhardt and his seven championships, the '98 home run chase between McGuire and Sosa, the Patriots win in the Super Bowl over my hometown Panthers last year (a little note, the Panthers are my hometown team but they are certainly not my favorite, that honor is bestowed upon the Eagles, my fomer hometown team). Tiger Woods and his remarkable lead at Pebble Beach in the 2000 U.S. Open. These things I will remember, I know for one thing I won't be remembering who won 200 meter butterfly race this year.
