agreed with Floyd

It will be interesting to see how in the future bands like Ween or the Pixies are looked at, since they are, IMHO, much like a modern versions of Floyd.

Also, I'm not sure if he counts, but David Bowie. He has been so influential in music for a very long time, and even has a new album. Quite possibly the most essential/influential musical artist in the past 100 years.

Well now ......... it seems to me that 'aint nobody mentioned "Blind melon" or ,for that matter "Gomez"!!!!!! . Two of the best, although for depth ,influence and sheer drama it's gonna have to be the mighty zep.
Honorable mentions to "The small faces" and the utterly brilliant "U2".
and as for "Rush", christ !!!! I hav'nt heard that name in 15 years (ish).

There is so many different opions and ways that this question can be answered. It depends on what genre you're talking about. I for one, enjoy lots of different bands. Anyways, the word 'favorite' is over rated. If I had to choose from my collection of bands I enjoy, well, I'd have to say: The Rasmus, Switchfoot, Weezer, Guster, and They Might Be Giants. (Not in that order mind you).

Rush, hands down.

Pink Floyd would be my second choice.

Pink Floyd is the best ever.

Rush is the second greatest.

Garbage is the best band to come around since the 90s began.

Black Sabbath is the greatest metal band.

Actually, the lead singer for Floyd was Roger "Syd" Barrett. When he suffered from mental deterioration (indeed, there are plenty of references to him within Floyd's music, from practically the entire Wish You Were Here album to the line "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
" from the song Brain Damage off the Dark Side of the Moon album), Roger Waters became the lead singer. However, the band drifted apart, and when the other three members, Roger Gilmour (who joined the band to replace Barrett), Nick Mason, and Richard Wright wanted to drift back together, Waters declined, feeling that the band's time had passed. Thus, Gilmour became the lead singer, although not without a legal challenge to the usage of the band's name by Waters. But that was resolved in court a long time ago and everyone is now living (relatively) happily ever after.

The End

The moral of the story? The greatest band of all time is Pink Floyd, although how this connects with the story even I have a hard time fathoming.

Pink Floyd grunge-ish? Come on. And the Dead Kennedys are hardly modern punk, they broke up almost 20 years ago, actually, before the Ramones did.

Roger and David switched back and forth on lead vocal duties. Kind of like KISS, but only with two guys. Moreover, Syd was only on the first album.
