Is government operated railways a good or bad thing? Tell me what you think. I (a strong Conservative) think national railways are a good thing. Look at England, France, and Germany. Although England recently privitized their lines, they are more organized and efficient than most raillines in the US or other nations. France and Germany also have excellent rail networks that provide a great service to their respective nations.

I suppose all this means that you're just talking about amtrack in general. It would never go private here. Passanger railways are not profitable here like they are in other nations because most people have cars and would prefer just to drive themselves from place to place or fly. So basically it will either be an industry that is operated by the government or not operated at all. SO anyway, good thing, cause if it wasn't we wouldn't have it.

Even though British railways are privatized, most of the companies running trains are subsidized anyway, as they don't make enough money
